Got some balls to make a sequel decades later. Well, I didn't hate it. Norman is released from the cuckoo's nest after 20 years. Naturally, some are concerned about this. Namely Lila Loomis. The irony here is people wants Norman to go crazy so they can all feel comfortable again. Thanks to Tom Holland's script, Anthony Perkins gives another solid and legitimately nuanced performance, being forced to question his sanity. Meg Tilly, the less busty sister of Jennifer, is also pretty good and damn cute as well. Dennis Franz, who was running the motel while Norman was at the funny farm, revels in being a sleazebag. This makes his death entirely predictable, though. Netflix isn't carrying Psycho III currently but do they do have the Gus Van Sant version, for which my morbid curiosity might get the better me of.

A sequel that shouldn’t work, but does. Granted, nothing is the original Psycho, but for a followup this was impressive.

The HBO channels are playing the 1998 Psycho if you're interested in checking it out for morbid curiosity.

Well, not so ballsy to wait until the original director dies to make it.
I actually just read the novel. The spite toward Hollywood is definitely heavy.

Although the first is the best I count Psycho 2 as being a more creepy film. I always liked it.

It's much better than it has any right to be.

You can watch all of Psycho III starting right here in the link below. It's split up into parts, but this link has each part flow one right into another. www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiOcpdUbz8Y&list=PLj1ozEJQ5xAs-AUBXeyOr8IlWEckzGPRH

I liked it.
Trying to compare with the original is useless: it's too iconic, never mind a good movie.
But it's good in it's own right.

I liked both Psycho II and Psycho III. Psycho IV was the real step down, but it was still watchable.

It needs a rewatch, but for a sequel to an all-time classic, I was pretty impressed by it. 6/10.

A good movie with a bad ending.

A good movie with a bad ending. I was thinking about that later. Finding out Norman's mother from the first film wasn't his biological mother seems unnecessary. At least the only person Norman kills in this film is the murderer.

At least the only person Norman kills in this film is the murderer. That part I don't have a problem with. This movie really makes you feel sorry for Norman and it really makes you root for him to overcome his past, which he would have if the people around him weren't doing there best to drive him insane again. It is a surprisingly smart movie in that regard.

It adopted a very different approach to the original. Essentially a psychological thriller. I'd class it as the best horror film of 1983.
