Here's how you prove that. What was the last movie to come out that wasn't based on something(besides maybe a book)... And it was the highest grossing movie of that year. Which used to happen all the time in the past. Well, Inception, that's what that was.
Done.

Inception wasn’t the highest grossing film of 2010 though.

I agree with your basic premise, I was just giving you a hard time. A major reason I haven't gone to the movies much in the past decade.

The Lobster wasn't original enough for you?

And while I love Inception and it is its own entity, it takes heavily from The Matrix and other sci-fi/action movies, and from my understanding, Scrooge McDuck.

Inception, although brilliant, was basically Dreamscape (1984) with a major upgrade.

The proof is in the number of remakes/reboots that are constantly coming out, and there's no end to it.

Avatar wasn’t even released in 2010, it was the year prior.

Done. Why does it have to be the highest grossing movie of the year? If your claim is that Hollywood has no ideas left for movies then all that's needed are some examples of movies that aren't based on books/comics/remakes/whatever. And those are certainly around.

Inception, although brilliant, was basically Dreamscape (1984) with a major upgrade. Inception takes from a lot of different sources but it is still an original screenplay. It isn't a remake of anything, it isn't based on a book and it isn't a sequel.

The Lobster wasn't original enough for you? I wasn't aware that The Lobster was one of the highest grossing movies of that year. You missed the extra part the OP added on so he could cheat in an attempt to prove his point.
