Wikipedia: Academy Award for Best PictureIf you could change the results for up to 5 Best Picture winners, which ones would you choose? Here are my current top 5 in no particular order: 1. 2005 (78th Academy Awards): Crash changed to Brokeback Mountain 2. 1998 (71st): Shakespeare in Love changed to Saving Private Ryan 3. 1994 (67th): Forrest Gump changed to The Shawshank Redemption 4. 1990 (63rd): Dances with Wolves changed to Goodfellas 5. 1977 (50th): Annie Hall changed to Star Wars

#1 FARGO over THE ENGLISH PATIENT. #2 A CLOCKWORK ORANGE over THE FRENCH CONNECTION. #3 INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS over THE HURT LOCKER. #4 WHIPLASH over BIRDMAN. #5 DUNKIRK over THE SHAPE OF WATER.
I did like those winners, just not as much as my picks... except for T.E.P. I didn't like it.

Gump was an OK movie, too mainstream and safe though. Pulp Fiction literally changed movies and came out of nowhere. It's trendy to call it overrated now but when it came out it really was amazing to see. It's still one of my favorite movies and it's aged beautifully IMO. Every character in it is great, it's beautifully shot, the soundtrack is unreal. No way Forrest Gump should have beaten it, that year is the year I realized what a sham the Academy is.
Too many others to mention, the BP award is basically a political award these days. I can't say who should have won over Moonlight except to say almost every movie I saw that year was better than Moonlight. Moonlight was straight up garbage.

Ha! Nearly all of them with the exception of the few inspired winners here and there throughout the years.

I don't mind the older ones even if I disagree with them because it wasn't so politically based. But now when some shit movie wins and it's OBVIOUSLY because of the politics it's just laughable.
I mean fucking Black Panther was nominated for best picture. It didn't win but the fact that it was even nominated shows how ridiculously political this bullshit has gotten.

Well yeah, it's a lot worse now. There's no denying that. But I'm over the Oscars. They're a joke. The last BP winner to actually deserve it was No Country For Old Men. And that only won because the academy sucks the Coen Brothers' dicks. But in this case the dick sucking happened to be a good thing.

You do know that the Academy wasn't the only award organization to nominate it? And that the voters today aren't the same ones who voted years ago? The last BP winner to actually deserve it was No Country For Old Men. And that only won because the academy sucks the Coen Brothers' dicks. But in this case the dick sucking happened to be a good thing. How is that dick sucking if it's a great movie, which you admitted? Besides, it's their only movie to win this award. It's also the only time they've won Best Directing and only the 2nd time they've won Best Screenplay.

I don't think the Academy "sucks the Coens dicks" they just make great movies. I recently rewatched Barton Fink and Miller's Crossing and those movies are fucking great. I watched the Balled of Buster Scruggs or whatever it's called on Netflix a while back and it wasn't all great but the opening one was hilarious and the one about the lady traveling West was great, especially the ending.

If other organizations nominated that just proves my point further. Hollywood and the media is almost completely liberal, many hardcore. They fell all over themselves praising BP because of who made it and the cast, not because it was a great film. It's a very average super hero movie. It's not bad but it's not anything special yet as far I know it's the only superhero movie ever nominated for best pic.

Okay, maybe I overstepped a bit. But the academy clearly does favor them, at least since No Country. I think I'll just call them a "safe choice" for the academy. Spielberg and Co. is truly where the dick sucking is at.

I mean they've made some stinkers but they've also made 5-6 legit great movies IMO.
Just off the top of my head, Barton Fink, Miller's Crossing, Fargo, Big Lebowski, and their True Grit remake are just great movies. I can rewatch any of those movies anytime and I still enjoy it even though I've seen them all many times. Raising Arizona is pretty good too just a little too broad for me, but it's still a good movie.
The movies the Coens make aren't "safe" in any way shape or form, they're just good.

Here, I can do it too:
"fart".
"hiccup".
"burp".
"gasp".

You already know I disagree. This just isn't worth a debate.

You already know I disagree. This just isn't worth a debate. So why type out "sigh"? I stated why I totally disagree with you saying the Coen's are a "safe" choice.
There's nothing "safe" about them. Their 1 BP award is for a movie about a psycho killer with a pageboy haircut lol. They're a lot of things but "safe" isn't a word I would use to describe them at all. They seem to just do what they want to do without regard for anyone else's opinion as far as I can tell.
If you don't want to "debate" why bother replying at all?
