I saw it yesterday afternoon and was really excited for it. I came out thinking it was kind of “meh”. I know this concept has been around forever, but not in a movie. The concept and the actors are the only thing I can really praise.
The story has been done before since it’s a retelling of Superman, but mixed with the Omen. It never explained why the ship talked to him. It never explained if the kid was always evil or if once the ship got control of him he’d become more evil. People kept talking about the gore like it was done in such a different way when it’s pretty much the same exact gore in ever other horror movie. It was also kind of boring.
In the end I was just very disappointed with this movie. It actually reminded me a lot about the prodigy and even ended in kind of a similar way and I didn’t care for that movie too much either. It’s too bad because this was a really anticipated movie for me this year. I expected something more from James Gunn even if he was just a producer. I’d give this a 5/10.

I thought it was good. I think going to much into the back story would have weighed down the narrative.

Apparently, Matt Zoller Seitz (Ebert's successor) agreed with you.

6/10 BRANDON killed ERICA because he thought she was an obstacle to be with CAITLYN, right? So why didn't he go get CAITLYN at the end?

I hated every second of it. it is such an obvious rip off of CHRONICLE

It was ok, but I felt that the concept had potential for something better.

It is as cheap looking as it low budget would suggest a new low even for Screen Gems.

Pretty much. I needed more about who he was and where he came from. And I thought it was kind of unclear what sent him off into the deep end. Was the ship supposed to be controlling him? Are we meant to think that he got into a spiral of doing nutty things, which makes his parents less accepting, which drives him to do worse?
Either way, he seemed to go from normal to nutty awfully quickly and easily, with no hesitation. I guess I just wanted him and the situation fleshed out more, so it was more understandable why he did the things he did.
