The recap actually helped again; I've put off watching for so long, I had kind of forgotten the last episode I watched ended with Kara conveniently de-powered and abducted by the president.
Still can't help but wonder what Brent Spinner would have done in the role. Before he backed out, I figured they'd have the Vice President become president to make the character a more central figure. The guy they got to replace him is fine, but Brent does a really good job playing shady figures. He just sort of has a playful irreverence that says, "I know I'm being a dick and not only do I not care, I kind of think it's funny."
Well, that settles that; they didn't bother keeping her exposed to kryptonite; which means the president doesn't know Kara's Supergirl....but of course the double shows up and exposes her.
You gotta love how, even though they're not a connected series, Supergirl has continued Smallville's tradition of the inconsistent effects of kryptonite. That's a lot of kryptonite that isn't killing Kara right now, but rather only making her "soft".
Oh, so the kryptonite does effect Other-Kara. So how the hell did she manage to open the box in the first place to incapacitate Kara? I'm not a nuclear scientist, but I'm pretty sure just being behind the tiny lid of a presumably lead lined box won't protect you that much from radiation exposure once you open the box.
She's been dealing with Kryptonite for 15 years? Bullshit. She's been hiding her identity for most of her life on Earth; she's been active on Earth as Supergirl for approximately 4 years and has definitely been severely impacted by kryptonite poisoning during those last 4 years. She should not be able to break those chains right now.
It's a good thing they weren't like, on the top floor of a six story building; because then her powers wouldn't have come back fast enough and she'd probably have gone splat on the pavement.
How did J'Onn even get the bullet out without kryptonite? I mean, the bullet would definitely still be in there, having hit her while she was weakened, but the moment her powers returned the wound should have closed up with the bullet still inside. And as dense as her cell structure is, it's hard to tell how much that would necessarily hurt her.
Although come to think of it, because Kryptonian cells are so dense, even de-powered their skin should be incredibly difficult to penetrate, especially if it's a glancing blow from a bullet. They never really explore that fact in live action though.
"They destroyed all of my evidence, so now I have nothing."
Why and how was the evidence that easy to destroy so effortlessly? In this day and age she would have back-ups and back-up of her back-ups.
Wait, when they decided to wipe Alex's mind, did they establish the procedure would presumably need to be permanent? Because I don't Kara or Alex would have agreed to that.
Plus, J'Onn is apparently not as good at manipulating brains as he thinks he is, seeing as how a) Alex has felt from the very start that something was off, so she's not compensating all that much; and b) evidently her old memories are starting to resurface.
I get remembering on her own would just mean her brain reconnects those pathways on their own and her memories surface without any catalyst - which is what they're doing now, but how her "finding out on her own" be any different than Kara telling her?
So basically Kara just needs to be extra sloppy with her secret around Alex and just sort of let her figure it out on her own, I guess...
Huh, the ruthless and borderline psychopathic mentality of a Luther applied to doing good. I guess this makes Lena "chaotic good" - did I use that right?
Hmmm..... Leave it to Lex Luthor's mom to make me doubt whether a baby truth seeker is fully working on her, just by telling Lena she loves her....
How did Lockwood pull such a large clump of hair from his head? His hair is pretty short to begin with. To put that kind of clump there'd have to be a pretty serious bald spot on the side of head.
Poor James though, he won't have that kind of early warning indicator.... at least, no on his head....
Stay away from the unicorn, Nia, they bite.
You know, it's only when Ben Lockwood is impersonating Brainy - which was spot on - that I realize how much Brainy's cadence and mannerisms remind me of William Shatner....and Calculon...
Yeah, in hindsight it seems pretty obvious that they would use some sort of means to detect the use of image inducers.
It's been a while since we've seen Brainiac 5 in his natural form... still don't like it. I think mostly because of the bad Doc-Brown-esque hair. I know in more recent years they've given the comic book Brainy a wilder hairstyle, but I never cared for it; and preferred his crew-cut look.
"You on the other hand, are blue."
More like a pale, sickly battleship grey. That's one of the other things I don't like about his make-up, it's so desaturated. His hair should be blonde, not some sort of straw-white. Not to mention, Brainiac 5 isn't supposed to be blue, he's supposed to be green. And conventionally in the comics, he doesn't have the three circle pattern on his forehead like his ancestor does.
Brainy's meltdown is actually pretty good. Kind of expected the "other" Brainiacs to come out once he started glitching, but it's interesting to see where they go with it.
Damn, Re-booted Brainiac is stone-cold crazy; and I kind of like it.
So did they tell their mom that they were wiping Alex's memories? The phone just rang I kind of expect Alex to say she needs to find Kara and that Supergirl is with her; and if her mom doesn't know that Alex doesn't know, then the jig is kind of up.
Also, you're on the job as a secret agent and you're answer a call from your mom? I mean, I get she's you're mom, but seriously, the world is in danger - priorities Alex.
God damn, Eliza's mom lives in a big ass house all by herself. Did she invent cancer or something?
This is a weakass fight between Supergirl and Red Daughter; especially considering that RD is in a suit that conceals her face, so it's not like they have to do any special trick photography to put Melissa in the same frame fighting herself. This could just be choreographed like any other fight scene....which for this show, I guess it is....Why would you just stand there when you see your opponent charge their hand with some sort of electricity and come at you?? And take the punch no less....
Wait, why the fuck is it so dark out all of a sudden? I had to rewind it to see if Kara was knocked clean across a few different time zones or something, but it just looks like she just gets hit with more "Force Lightning" (seriously Thawne and RD??) and then all of a suddenly there's a shock-wave and the sky goes black. So RD took out the sun? Yet Alex already has her headlights on....
Why is any of this triggering Alex's memories?
How could Alex take a hit like that from RD and not be...I don't know... dead? Or at least like, severely injured?
How did Eliza find them in the woods? Is it the pitch black sky? Does it only extend for like a quarter mile and she figured this is where some freaky shit went down, I bet my daughters are there?
"There's sunlight in the grass"......
Under other circumstances this might have worked for me on the emotional level they're intending, but it just doesn't; especially since it's all but certain that Kara will come to. Maybe if this really was Kara's death and they were making the bold choice I mentioned earlier in the season, where Kara dies and her double, having had an epiphany - and ostensibly witnessing Kara sacrifice herself for the greater good - takes up the Supergirl mantle in her memory as she tries to atone and find her own identity as a hero. It would be in keeping with the comic book history of Supergirl where there were multiple iterations of Supergirl, not all of them Kryptonian; and one of them was a pseudo-clone.
But I don't expect her "death" to keep - especially not in light of the foreshadowing with Crisis, but just in general, it would be the most anticlimactic death of a titular character ever. At least until next year when Arrow ends...
Oh FFS, she's really fucking pulling the sunlight out of the grass and tress and shit? That is why they made it dark?
Wait, I've seen that scene before...
It's pretty convenient that James only starts to manifest issues with his cure after Ben does, who took it after James.
Yeah, I still doubt Mama Luthor is telling the truth...
Clearly Brainiac will snap back to normal when Nia's life is threatened. You know, because...
I get that they probably didn't want to pay Jon Cryer for a non-dialog video clip, but did they have to make him look more like Magneto than anything else?
So is that it? Just like that, RD is unceremoniously killed off by Lex off screen? I kind of hope not, because that'd be anticlimactic.
