It had its flaws, sure. But overall I thought it was quite satisfying.
What I loved most was that it finally fulfilled the character arcs that have been carefully set up for the last eight seasons. I understand that fans loved Deny. I loved the character too... But she was always going to become a villainess. That was always her arc whether you wanted it or not. And the whole theme of the series was about the corruption of power and reality that no ideology is correct, and believing you are the only one who is right will inevitably lead to tyranny, even if you are the most compassionate and morally conscious person in the world. Jon Snow was always the protagonist, he is the only character with a traditional "hero's journey" arc, and the bittersweetness of his "victory" fit the series perfectly.
I respect all opinions, and don't mean to insinuate that anyone who hated this season is wrong. But I find it sad that the writers are having to deal with so much backlash for what I consider to be a terrific ending.

I think it did that. I don't like the way some of them turned out but for the most part the characters' journeys made sense. I see every idiot in the world misunderstand Jaime's arc, but it went just the way it should. I don't like that he and Cersei had to die, yet being murdered by the monster of the story while staying true to themselves was satisfactory. I absolutely hated to see Tyrion survive and in a position of power but there's a real life parallel right there. At least Littlefinger and Varys got burned at their own game. Arya somehow returning from the depth of her death cult yet never really fitting anywhere is also fine and Sansa coming into her own as a realistic ruler was a good thing. I still think Bran was a complete waste of space and obviously the writing had more than severe issues but characters were steered properly. Jon Snow was butchered, though.

It’s literally hit and miss for me, almost simultaneously. There are parts that are perfect...and other parts that make me roll my eyes or sigh with disappointment.

In order to love it, I would need more episodes but I didn't hate it like some do. It's just that D&D insistence is finishing the show in just 13 episodes clearly created problems that would've been easily fixed with two full seasons IMO.

I liked most of it.
Episode 2 is exceptional.
It had two episodes that were some of the best looking stuff I've ever seen on TV.
I enjoyed the Battle of Winterfell as the darkness didn;t bother me.
I didn't like episode 4.
Dany's rampage infuriated me, but I was satisfied with the finale.
It was my least favorite season largely because it was rushed, but that's not saying much as I have enjoyed all of the seasons.

I liked most of it quite a lot. Just don't understand the hate. Maybe its because I had just finished binge watching all the previous seasons for the first time literally the day before the first episode of the eighth season. So my approach and experience was very different from fans who have been spending time with the show for years.

It's too bad they had to rush to them, instead of letting them unfold more naturally over a few more years. Oh well. I'll still rewatch the whole series and am looking forward to the prequel series, Bloodmoon.

Daenerys was introduced as part of an invading plot to violently replace a current power that is not oppressive and realising she "is The Dragon" as early as the 6th episode of the series. Viewers were then lulled into thinking there is something like a nice dragon but the author(s) always intended to have them fall on their face in the end by having her turn into something terrible. Jon Snow is a little more difficult in that his unwillingness to become anything is disappointing as well as going against expectations but here again he was always this way, telling Sam he dared not "father another bastard" with a whore in S1. The theme was not about "the corruption of power", even though Daenerys can be interpreted as such. It is broader than that, so broad maybe that it is barely worthy of generalisation but there is a constant example of how the use of military power, no matter how seemingly justified, comes at more cost than benefit. The "rightful heir" Stannis, the "lovable" king Renly or the dispossessed descendants of the former Targaryen dynasty were all based on some sense of entitlement bringing no needed improvement at the cost of terrible war. Up to the very end, the alleged "tyranny" of Cersei Lannister remained thoroughly invisible and invented. Another theme was that everyone always feels justified in what they do. It was turned into a cartoon in the end, and maybe it was needed to reach the broad audience. I cannot abide the ridiculous ending, though. The choice of Bran makes absolutely no sense and presenting Tyrion's advent as a de facto ruler in a positive light is the worst shame ever. I really hope the fat shit dies before he can write it.
