Just saw it. It's a good movie. It's obvious that the critics didn't like it because it didn't have lame jokes and 1-liners throughout the movie. Sure, why not?

My old college buddy that owns a Nerd Shop did the same thing he did for End Game. He rented out a showing of Dark Phoenix. He had to wait for the middle of the week for End Game, but was able to get Sunday for DP. I asked him how was the movie as I trust his judgement. He said that the movie was Ok, but he had a miserable time. I asked why and he said only about 1/3rd of the people he gave free tickets to a private showing showed up. He doesn't know why it all could be explained away, but it just sucked for him. He still is planing to do one for Far From Home, but it's got him second guessing it.

I'd have definitely gone if it was a free ticket. Not a whole lot to do on a Sunday in June. Pretty shitty of the people to accept a free ticket and not bother showing up.

And he can't really bitch them out. They are his customers, so he is stuck with just eating it. He is going ahead with the Far From Home private screening though.

Ok, My thoughts. It's a pretty average flick. It's not good, but it's not bad. It seems to be stuck in trying to be a more intimate psychological movie and a summer blockbuster at the same time. It kind of fails at both to some degree and settles in a meh it's ok. Jennifer Lawrence continues to phone her acting in. Jessica Chastain is woefully under used. Sophie Turner is surprisingly good in her role. She seemed Zombie-like in the trailers, but all in all she actually gave a nuanced good performance. Some of the dialogue was clunky, but as a whole not completely bad. Some of the mishmash of different ideas/reshoots is apparent but not so much that it completely takes you out of the story. I guess it's crime is just being average.
I'd give it a 6/10

That's probably the best complement you could give to Fastbender, McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, and Sophie Turner. They are enjoyable to watch and transcends the production issues.

I'm worried about the FoX-Men movie universe.
