Hard to believe that this seminal 80's album turns 35 on June 4th. Any fans of "Born in the U.S.A." by Bruce Springsteen?
This is the album that made Bruce a major star and household name thanks to radio and MTV. Plenty of memorable songs like the title track, Glory Days, Dancing in the Dark, I'm on Fire, etc.

'Downbound Train' for me. A haunting melodic tune that keeps the uptempo beat going despite his life falling away.
"I had a job, I had a girl I had somethin' going, mister, in this world...
She just said, Joe, I gotta go We had it once, we ain't got it anymore...
Now I work down at the car wash Where all it ever does is rain Don't you feel like you're a rider On a downbound train."

It still catches me by surprise a little, when I recall that this is an 80's tune. I remember the kerfuffle Springsteen got into with Ronald Reagan, when Ronnie was using it on the campaign trail (apparently he'd never seen the lyrics--or had any of his aides explain them to him--and was just responding to the 'Born in the USA' part, thinking it was some patriotic ballad). Springsteen was no fan of Reagan's for sure; IIRC Reagan's campaign finally did drop the tune, though I don't know if it was particularly due to pressure from Springsteen's people or for other reasons.
It's a great tune, still relevant, and easy to rock out to.

A remarkable album that's almost a sociological account of working-class life.

A lot of these songs are full of nostalgia for me as we just got MTV aroud that time, so I remember the videos being on constant rotation.
Bobby Jean is my favorite song on the album. It reminds me of growing up with friends and eventually reaching that point in your life where you go your seperate ways.

For some reason it seems like it should be older.

Yeah.
I'm more freaked out that Pearl Jam's Ten is almost 30 years old.

Most 80's albums have aged poorly due to new technology being used for the sake of it at the time, BITU has aged better than many.
