From what I’ve read it doesn’t really seem to have anything to do with Warner Bros. The cancellation appears to be the fault of North Carolina.
Apparently Swamp Thing was going to get a tax rebate that amounted to half its budget but some kind of mistake made it so NC couldn’t offer that anymore... so the show was cancelled because they couldn’t keep the quality of season 1 the same for season 2 due to what I imagine would’ve been a massive budget cut.
I haven’t seen Swamp Thing yet and I’m disappointed to say that I probably won’t watch it now that it’s been cancelled after one season.

Cancelled? Didn't it only just start the other day?

Cancelled? Didn't it only just start the other day? Yeah Pilot just came out. I was weighing the cost vs usefulness to getting DC Universe. I think right now I'll hold off.

I think its too early to say that its in trouble. But it doesn't help them announcing a cancellation after only one episode. it looks bad.

Not that it's adequate but Forbes wrote that this is part of the reason.
“Like every other initiative, DC Universe is being reevaluated following the completion of AT&T acquisition of Time Warner as WarnerMedia has put an emphasis on the launch of a new streaming platform. There have been questions how DC Universe fits into those plans.”

Has to be money. Disney+ has quite a lineup of shows so DC streaming might be seen as an ultimate dead end

I think the false narrative is that the show has been canceled. If you can log into the DC Universe streaming service, you will see that all 10 episodes are scheduled to be released in sequence on a weekly basis for the next 8 Fridays (the first two episodes are available now). No one ever announced nor promised that their would be a season two. The only thing that happened is that the season was shortened from 13 episodes to 10. It is also odd that James Wan, although saying he doesn't understand why the show was canceled on his Instagram account: http://instagr.am/p/ByeFQAeBq9Y still encourages fans to watch all 10 episodes. If the series was canceled, they wouldn't air the show at all, so it really wasn't canceled per se. It just won't get extended to season 2 (nor was that really guaranteed).

Technically, it's not cancelled, since they're still airing episodes each week for the next 10 weeks. It's just not renewed. I've watched the first 2 episodes. The first 2 episodes are pretty good.

I don’t think it’s a false narrative that they’re cancelled. That’s like saying Jessica Jones wasn’t cancelled because the third season hasn’t aired yet but is still going up on Netflix this month. Streaming just happens to be different. They already filmed everything and they don’t exactly lose money by putting it online. It’s not like network TV where continuing to air a low rated show costs them money and ads. You can’t replace a time slot with something better on streaming so it just doesn’t make sense not to release the show. But I do think it’s a false narrative that the show was cancelled because of quality, ratings, or behind the scene drama. Or because WB just “doesn’t know” what they’re doing. From everything I’ve read it sounds like they got screwed on the taxes in North Carolina and wouldn’t have been able to keep the quality the same with a slashed budget for any future seasons.

Now there's a rumor that Warner may cancel the Streaming service. Hasn't that been the rumour since before it even launched, people thought a DC only streaming service wouldn't be a big enough draw to maintain such a service, and should WB launch their own all encompassing service that the DC service would end up being absorbed into that.

I haven't really heard that before it's launch, honestly. I've seen discussions about whatever or not this would be a successful streaming service but I don't recall seeing rumors about it being cancelled before it launch. I wouldn't be surprised if DC Universe got absorbed into the up coming Warner Bros/HBO streaming service.

I'm all for providing Niche Markets for people. This might be a little to niche and rightfully should be absorbed into a Warner Brothers Streaming Service.

I think they knew that though which is why they also license the shows to Netflix outside of the US, if it's anything like Star Trek & CBS then Netflix likely paid for most of the various shows production themselves, so as long as they have enough subscribers to offset operational cost of a service like that they would be in the money, hell more so than that it's a good way to promote their IP's, you know now infinitely more people know who Doom Patrol are than did like 2 years back, and that will mean more sales in any Doom Patrol related merch.
This would also make sense why losing the tax cut would cause them to cancel a show, if DC are playing low risk and only making shows they are going to be in profit from before they even factor in subscribers then losing a huge tax break for one of them would spell the end for that show, may have nothing to do with the viability of the service and more just DC not taking the chance on losing money from the service.

I didn't know they licensed out to Netflix outside the US. That would make sense of making a show break even without subscribers vs the Tax Break they lost. Without that info on licensing it looks like WB is trying to cut their losses before they got to heavy. Again I love when companies market to Niche Markets. You can get some real out of the box programming doing that. If they can subsidize their shows with Netflix money keep it going then kudos. I would say I am one of the people in that Niche and I didn't know that. I have been going back and forth on whether to sign up or not. Having Amazon Prime, Hulu, Netflix and most likely Disney+ adding another streaming service is starting to add up.
