think it'll make in the 40-50 million range domestically. Pets 2 seems to be on track to win the weekend which isn't a surprise.

deadline.com/2019/06/dark-phoenix-rises-in-china-with-12m-launch-day-are-dark-times-ahead-overseas-1202628273/Dark Phoenix as No. 1 in eight out of 11, mostly lower than the last X-Men movie, Apocalypse. In France, despite a No. 1 bow on Wednesday, Dark Phoenix is about 30% off of Apocalypse. In the UK, which likewise started Wednesday, it’s down by 50% compared to the last installment. We hear that some of the Asia Pacific markets are more tuned in to Jean Grey where there are No. 1 openings in the Philippines and Singapore. In the former, Dark Phoenix launched 150% over Logan as well as 120% ahead of the first Deadpool and 30% over X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Singapore’s first day is 19% off of Apocalypse.

Damn Box Office Mojo is predicting:
The Secret Life of Pets 2 (4,561 theaters) - $51.0 M Dark Phoenix (3,721 theaters) - $39.2 M
For opening weekend, I thought it was going to be closer to $60m for Pets to $50m Dark Phoenix.

5 million in previews last night, translates to 45m ow at most but likely closer to 40m, this is a disaster.

X-Men Apocalypse's previews were $8.2 million. Only $5 million?
This looks like it's set for the worst opening for a Marvel/DC live action movie since that Fantastic Four disaster.

Oh dear, $36 million? That's dreadful. That's almost down by half compared to Apocalypse.
You had people here complaining about X-Men becoming part of the MCU but this is why it has to happen. Even if this Fox/Disney merger didn't happen, this series would be dead after this.
This could struggle to make even $100 million because X-Men is one of the most front loader series anyway.

I personally hope that the low income opening weekend relates to studio's stop casting the young Game of Thrones actors because of GOT.

I thought I read 200m so that seems about right. It's going to struggle to break even theatrically. It's going to need a massive push from International Market to do that. I am going to see it Monday, but from what I've seen in trailers and tv spots did it look like a 200m budgeted film? From what I've seen it didn't. I suppose it's the talent they had to resign. Edit: and reshooting the ending cost a bit I assume.

Is this the smallest opening for them? Or have they done smaller?

Is this the smallest opening for them? Or have they done smaller? It'd be the smallest domestic opening by far. For worldwide openings it'd be above X-Men. X-Men 2 opened to $155 million but that way before the overseas boom.

That's terrible, if it has X-Men Apocalypse's legs it'd finish with $82 million but because the reception is so bad this could go under that.
