Is that a problem for you 🤔
If it is, have a pray to St. Pelagia why not... She is your patron, and It's her day today 👍
Men came to arrest her for her faith... She was afraid they might rape her, so she threw herself to her death off the roof, rather than risk it.

Well, there's a world of difference between easily seduced, and rape-happy psycho.

Yeah... It's a bit of a messy one alright. Just go with her killing herself rather than being raped... that's the gist of it.

I have taken a strict vow of celibacy....like my father.....and his father before him. Nevertheless, it could present a dilemma. Let's say an asteroid is about to hit earth and we have about two minutes to live. Some hot young girl cruises up beside me and says, "Erik, I don't want to die a virgin." What to do? What to do? I just hope it doesn't happen. Not sure what I would do. If it were Vegas, no such dilemma would exist.

The problem with many today is they might have basic belief in God but that's about as far as it goes. regular prayer (as in daily prayer) is not optional if one is going to avoid sin and grow in holiness. without regular prayer it's like trying to grow in holiness on your own without God's help, it's simply not going to happen. but with regular prayer we do get God's help through His grace which makes it easier to resist temptation etc. so basically... He's doing the heavy lifting but we have to make the choice since we have free will He won't interfere with our choices as you can continue to reject His grace and persist in your sinful ways. although obviously, don't persist in sin as you must truly want to be free from it and lets just say someone does truly want to be free from a sin or sin in general etc, don't expect it's going to happen overnight as, like I talk about below a bit, don't look at prayer as something that happens immediately (although it's possible prayers can be answered quickly but that's typically not going to be the case) but look at it more in terms of months/years/decades. NOTE: another mistake I think many make is they might pray for a little while and when nothing happens, they are quick to give up. but instead don't look at things that way (don't look for quick answers as a general rule) but try to look at it in terms of months/years/decades and even if you don't need something pray anyways for others etc (plus, God might answer our prayers differently then how we would expect or like Him to). growing in holiness tends to be a slow process in general. p.s. I highly recommend praying The Holy Rosary daily. daily is key!. NOTE: for those who find it hard to pray... start off with some basic prayers (like say maybe 5 minutes of your time each day) and slowly work your way up. God will see your effort Basically to protect her purity is the gist of it. basically those who would rather die than to have their purity shattered. some others... www.catholiccompany.com/getfed/virgin-martyrs-models-of-purity-5972IsapopIf one is trying to aim high and look up to a female... The Virgin Mary (i.e. Jesus Christ's mother) is the gold standard as she's THE highest of the created order as there is no one higher than her besides God (i.e. The Holy Trinity (Father/Son(Jesus Christ)/Holy Spirit)) of which He's not part of the created order since He's the Creator. but with that said... I am sure there are plenty of other female saints that are a solid example that you can't go wrong with since they all tend to be on the same page (like those in that link I posted above) but as usual they tend to be the opposite of the worlds ways (the world's ways are often contrary to God) p.s. on a side note... I like the movie The Song of Bernadatte (1943).

He is describing suicide, which from a Catholic perspective, is a grave sin. Does the RCC teach that being a victim of rape is so awful that committing a grave sin in this case constitutes "aiming high"? (None of the Virgin Martyrs in your link committed suicide. They were killed.)

Catholics who commit suicide nowadays receive full funeral Mass and Christian burial. Modern medical science and understanding of psychiatry has done away with suicide as a mortal sin pretty much.

Modern medical science and understanding of psychiatry may have made the RCC more understanding of Catholics who commit suicide, so that such Catholics are not denied full funeral Mass and Christian burial. But suicide has not been done away with as a mortal sin - not "pretty much" or in any other sense.

Basically to protect her purity is the gist of it. basically those who would rather die than to have their purity shattered. What a terrible worldview it is, that one considers a person who has sex or a person who is raped, even, to be somehow 'less pure' than they would otherwise be. Who would look at a rape victim and say "your rapist did a terrible thing, but you should accept that you're a lesser person than you were now." Disgusting and sad.

A person HAS to be mentally disturbed or in great fear to take their own life, hence no foul... QED. Welcome to modern Catholicism.

That's just his bizarre American 'catholic fundo' twisted idea. Pelagia was shiting it, and chose death.

3rd Century = 21st Century
I have to remember that equation in order to understand what the heck the issue is.

I'd be praying.

“To fuck, or not to fuck: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To fuck, to die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause: there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodice? who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary body,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscover'd country from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pith and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action.--Soft you now!
The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons
Be all my sins remember'd, so fuck it... may as well fuck!”

Didn't Ghandi used to sleep with naked women to tempt him or something?

My wife tried that roof thing so many times I put a mattress on the patio, came in handy afterwards, too.
