I think both movies come out this week and yet there hasn't been much hype for either of them. Any of you plan on seeing either film?
I think next week has that Child's Play remake come out.

I haven’t been following MIB as I should, and not really interested in Shaft since I still need to watch the films preceding it.

There's no buzz for anything that isn't Marvel right now – and I like Marvel, but audiences have seemingly given up on anything not Marvel.

Amiable yet forgettable, MiB International grinds its stars' substantial chemistry through the gears of a franchise running low on reasons to continue.

Shaft might deserve it's own thread.
Went to a screening of Shaft on Mon and I actually found it to be consistently funny. Had a better idea of what it wanted to be as opposed to the 2000 version. Will still probably get panned because it'll come off as very toxic masculine to some, but, to me at least, it felt like a 21/22 Jump Street semi-meta commentary on blaxploitation movies, and how the lead characters are nothing more than sex obsessed, hyper-masculine brothers with smooth street swagger. They poke fun at that in my opinion, and have Samuel L equally as the butt of jokes and the instigator of them, as opposed to never looking bad.
Feels a little like Uncle Drew last year in that I thought it would be terrible but it is actually a pleasant surprise of the summer.

Don't forget there is an entire generation that doesn't do change well so even though this isn't taking from the Smith stuff, they might not be able to move on. They dont do remakes, etc. I am seeing it tomorrow. It's like Girl From UNCLE wasn't replacing Man From UNCLE.

Does anyone remember when Avengers came out in 2012 & made tons of money. Other movies fell short of their estimates to where people believed the Avengers sucked all the money out of the summer box office. dlisted.com/2012/05/06/avengers-made-all-money-weekend/Theaters were scrambling to add showings. www.funnyordie.com/2012/5/14/17714404/the-avengers-vs-the-economyYeah, that is a joke, but there were studios blaming Avengers their movies failed. So do we suggest Endgame sucked up all the cash so thats why Godzilla, etc., have just kinda been barely making it? I already saw one article suggest Sony doesnt care about MiB because it's eyeballing that Spiderman Far From Home money in a couple weeks.

I liked MiB International a lot! Solid story for a Men in Black movie, pretty funny at times, very likable leads, cool visuals. I don't see how it could have been any better (within the constraints of a MiB movie, of course - I am not saying that it is the best movie I've ever seen!).

I gave up trusting critics ages ago. They seem more about them than honestly reviewing movies. Yet nowadays people are all "I'm not spending $15 on a movie ticket unless it's 5 stars!" Not every movie is Avengers or whatever one sees as the apex of moviegoing enjoyment. It's ok to see a B movie or even a C movie if one is just looking for a few hours of diversion

How many times can you watch a MIB movie? Especially one that's getting panned and doesn't even have the original cast?
Look at recent movies....MIB....Shaft.....Child's Play remake....Godzilla.....Pets 2......Aladdin.....John Wick 3......
How many times can you watch these never ending sequels/reboots?
And for the privilege you have to schlep down to a theater.........pay 10-15 bucks for a ticket......another 10 bucks for a drink and popcorn.....for 2 people you're going to be spending $50. I'd much rather watch a decent movie at home.
Why would you pay that much money to see a "C" movie? All you're doing it is encouraging them to make more of that crap. If you want a few hours of "diversion" there's a million things to do besides waste money on crappy movies.

I pay for 2 tickets. Today was Angelika-2 tickets including coffee $16 in a recliner. Yeah, Olive Garden after was a $50 thing. So what? This is Star Trek Next Generation. It wasn't advertised as a continuation, but as the next chapter. It takes place in England. I enjoyed it. My kid thought Pawny would be more annoying, but he wasnt. I don't buy a ticket to a movie I don't expect to enjoy.

One can tell the budget cut-half the last one. There are fewer aliens, but it works. Thompson & Hemsworth are excellent, but Hemsworth is playing the pretty dolt 3 steps above his vacuous Ghostbusters character.
