I can’t believe they had a showing of this for one day at my local theater and then they took it out.
What’s the deal?

Saw it again. I think my favorite scene of the year is the end of the opening scene/transition into the opening credits. Pugh crying gave me chills. The music gave me chills. The camera slowly zooming past the couple and out beyond the window behind them right before the credits starts. It’s such a perfect scene.

Same with Hereditary, Ari pulls us right into something very special and creepy. Amazing opening scenes in both cases.

It never quite sticks it landing for me at all, which is sad because its something which should work for me really.

“Midsommar” surprised me. I knew it would be weird, but I had no idea it would be THIS weird. It is utterly unlike anything else you’ll see at the movies this summer. And here’s the thing – the more I think about it, the more I like it. If there’s a better indication of artistic merit, I’d love to hear it.
It’s worth noting that this might be one of the absolute best cinematic representations of what it feels like to be on a hallucinogenic trip that I’ve ever seen. Trying to describe it is futile; you’ll know it when you see it.

It's been 3 weeks I think now. Still can't get it out of my mind. The guy at the end in the thing when he started screaming. Absolutely horrifying. yeah that was a good moment.

There were about 10 other people in the theater when I saw this vibrant piece of brain candy. Three of them walked out after the intense cliff scene, their poor little minds having been melted, offended and obliterated. The rest of the comic book movie sheep were clearly shaken as they exited when the credits rolled, their tastes and lives assaulted by the madness of a genius. Thank you Ari for a cinematic experience I'll never forget. Florence Pugh deserves an Oscar nomination for schooling all other female performances I've seen this year. Brilliant, disturbing and cringe-worthy. If you have no patience for real story-telling, buy your little ticket for Annabelle instead.

The last 10 minutes of the film has one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed for a film and it perfectly juxtaposed with the utter brutal images on screen .
I still cant get over the fact that we can watch such a piece of boundary pushing cinema in todays day and age.
Hats off to A24. This is their finest moment and I dont think they will ever be able to surpass it.

I completely agree there.

The movie has the blackest of hearts yet it is filmed in the brightest of sunshine ever. Oh the irony.......

Movie of the yeat. I agree not even that much violence. Nc 17 rating would have been a travesty.

7/10 I appreciated the Lady or the Tiger scenario they did, but after losing her parents and sister in such a horrific way, I don't think she'd let her boyfriend be killed, even if she did catch him screwing someone else. Here's how I interpreted it: DANI is the only one (outside of the cult) who doesn't really react to the deaths from the cliff. It's because they jumped. They killed themselves, just like her sister. Then, they explain their beliefs about sacrifices and the circle of life. DANI seems curious about it. Whenever a person dies, their loved ones wonder why did it have to happen. "What's God's plan?" DANI likes the idea that death (and especially suicide) can have a meaning. That's why she eventually joins them. I don't think she smiled when CHRISTIAN died out of spite for him cheating on her; I think she was happy that he would be used for this "recycling" (I'm guessing they'll name his baby after him).

Interesting interpretation. This has definitely been the most intriguing film I've seen this year. The director reminds me of Kubrick.
