And if so please make some recommendations. Thanks!
One of my recommendations is: Old Mans War by John Scalzi. Old folks are given a new lease on life in a war against aliens.

I enjoyed a couple short story collections. Children of the New World and Guardian Angels and Other Monsters. I haven't read a lot of science fiction from the past couple years since I'm rather picky about writing styles. From a little further back I would recommend Spin by Robert Charles Wilson and Stories of My Life and Others by Ted Chiang, another short story collection. I'd preview the three short story collections before spending money on them. Spin is a very unusual and interesting novel though, so I recommend that without hesitation.

The author of "The Martian" has a second book out, "Artemis", which I thought was pretty good.
I also enjoyed "The Windup Girl" by Paolo Bacigalupi, which I bought on a whim, without knowing anything about it beforehand.
Another recent one that I read is "Embassytown" by China Mieville, which got good reviews and some awards, but was a bit too way out there for my taste.
