After all these years the best use of YouTube is still probably listening to music, watching movie trailers, and watching how to tutorial videos. Very useful.
The trending section will always have stuff from talk shows that were on tv first. Also there will be at least 3 videos with thumbnails with people with their mouths wide open and something to do with food.
The most popular YouTubers content is about guess what? Talking about Other popular YouTubers. They also do "challenges" and pranks.
Almost all the kids content is toy reviews, unboxing toys, redoing classic kids songs with cheap animations, or weird family vlogs that seem to love to film their kids for the whole world to see.
Then there is all the Anti SJW channels, they all make the same videos about the same things and use the same thumbnails. You will more than likely see videos about Brie Larson, AOC, Batwoman, or them going to some event with a microphone to ask people about Donald Trump.
Then there is the lazy and uncreative YouTubers who do live streams for 6 hours talking about nothing hoping to get as much superchats as possible. Yes people actually donate hundreds of dollars to YouTubers sitting there reading comments instead of oh I don't know maybe donating to charities?
And then the rest of YouTube is makeup tutorial videos, workout videos, podcasts, movie trailer reactions, and people playing video games.
Did I miss anything?

Most big name youtubers are narcissistic, anti-social assholes. Youtube is a business. Pure and simple.

Sometimes I can find some bootleg copy of a hard to find movie on there. It's useful for that. I like some of the old WW2 training films also, like for flying different airplanes, a lot of those were directed by some big time Hollywood directors.

YouTube in a nutshell:
*Person posts video*
Comments:
Person 1: “Kill yourself!”
Person 2: “You’re ugly!”
Person 3: “YOU SUCK!”

I watch YouTube videos for the same reason I post on IMDB; I have nothing better to do with my life.

Oh I almost forgot about all that weird ASMR stuff. You can make money eating into a microphone, what a time to be alive.

I use YouTube as my "radio station". It's how I find all the music I buy.

I remember back in the old days, around 2007 or 2008 when YouTube was literally home made videos posted by people around the world. It was so fun. People weren't there to get 'likes' or 'comments' or get paid. It was all about putting yourself out there and broadcasting original content.
Now it's weird. I miss the old days.

Under most music videos
"I'm so cool, I'm the only one who likes this song/band" x 100
"I love this and I'm only 12 years old"
"Some cocktard brought me here"
random lyric from the song

I do like some of the instruction videos. Helped me with my car several times.
When I'm bored I sometimes waste a great amount of time on the Mojo channel top ten lists even if they are often crap.

I do like some of the instruction videos. Helped me with my car several times. Good point. There are a lot of great instructional videos on YouTube. I have found/used videos on how to: - Replace the light bulb socket in a lamp
- Replace a light switch
- Replace the battery in my car key/remote
I was told, after I did the job, that hiring an electrician to do #2 would have cost me $75.

The worst YouTube comments are "First!" Yeah like who cares if you're first. "This came out a day before my birthday" There is a lot of birthday comments on YouTube I sure hope those are kids because if it's an adult saying "oh my God someone died on my birthday" I'll be very surprised that the lack of intelligence. and then there's all the copies of the top comment that got the most likes people all use the same joke and just change it up a bit, that's a little lame.

I miss those days also. Now all these "professional Youtubers" bore viewers with their obligatory "be sure to click on the 'like' button and 'subscribe' to my channel" speech and sometimes 2-3 minute channel intro credits before they get to whatever the damn video is supposed to be about. Then they waste another 5 minutes or so on some side tangent that has nothing to do with whatever the title of the video said they were supposed to be talking about. Most of the time based on the one video I've seen I would never subscribe to their channel. They all act as if they have thousands upon thousand of loyal subscribers that are their personal friends now. Then there are those "suggested for you" videos. Many of which are on subjects that you never even heard of. So why was this suggested for me? Oh wait because I mistakenly clicked on that one video that I was curious about? How was that related to UFOs? DIY life hacks claiming to be for men but demonstrated by women for women? Sports records that will never be broken?

Oh yeah the be sure to like and subscribe to my channel spiel they all say. also what hurt the quality of content is YouTube deciding that videos over 10 minutes could put in a whole bunch of advertisements so you have so many people stretching out what should just be a 3 or 4 minute video into a 10 minute video and it just becomes unwatchable.
