Yesterday I rewatched "First Class" after years, and it was a pure cinematic beauty. Just a brilliant and outstanding superhero movie. Fassbander and McAvoy were at the top of their games. The acting, the screenplay and the direction were spectacular, as well the make-up and the costumes. The CGI on the sequence in which the missiles explode was incredible for a 2011 movie. I just wish that sequence was longer, it lasted few seconds. That's my only complaint about the movie.
Beast's appearance resembled a giant bat (the head) crossed with a feline. Cool, but I prefer the DOFP form over this.

It's good but I did think there were some clunky if not outright anvilicious moments and some actors (January Jones?) were miscast; boring (Zoe Kravitz dull? Shame on you!) or other characters underutilized (Darwin. I guess that's inevitable.

So I'm re-watching it now and I'm enjoying it more this time around than the first. I haven't seen it since it first came out which is crazy that that was eight years ago.
It's nice to see J-Law actually caring about the role. I had forgotten that she didn't always used to phone it in. I'm also enjoying McAvoy more than I remember.
I'm guessing when it first came out I probably wasn't ready to see new people in the roles so maybe I shoved it aside. I always knew it was a good movie, just never felt like it was for me. Happy I gave it another shot though.

Happy I gave it another shot though. The only flaw is the Wolverine Cameo. Here me out. It's a great scene, but I was hoping for a full reboot not a soft reboot/prequel. I think First Class is the best out of all the new Main Cast X-men Movies. And I wanted it to continue exploring that world without it being tied to the previous. DoFP is good, but I would've liked them to slowly grow and plan out a new series from First Class. And for that continuation to happen without the baggage of correcting the previous mistakes of X3. I also didn't like the Decade jumping. That one scene of Wolverine tied it to the previous movies. Also wished that J-law didn't get so famous they had to make the movies about her and make Mystique a anti-hero then full blown hero. Or if she did get famous to have the wherewithal to make her the Villain she's supposed to be and give her a part that's meaty enough that J-law could forget the hell of makeup and actually care about actually acting.

It was definitely unnecessary, the Wolverine cameo. I was reading something about Matthew Vaughn saying he would've followed up First Class with Apocalypse THEN done Days of Future Past. I think that would've been a better idea, even though I love DOFP just how it is.
Yeah.. by the time of J-Law's second X-Men movie it already felt like she didn't care. Because she was actually interesting in First Class. After that it just looks like she wishes she had never signed on to X-Men. I agree that she should've gotten a meatier part.. not just a more lead of a role which didn't even appear that she wanted. I think she would've been happier if they had made her a smaller character that she could sink her teeth into and the new franchise would've been better for it.

I also think I read where Vaughn wanted to introduce his own version of Wolverine later on in 2nd or 3rd movie. The ability to have Hugh worked out and so they did the cameo. I don't think Vaughn wanted to do it but got pressure from Fox. I don't think he was completely against he just wanted his own Wolverine, but the fates made the Cameo possible so they went with it.

Just few seconds... that's my only complaint, because it was supposed to be the big climax of the movie.
