Hawke should have received a lot of nominations and wins but for reasons I don't understand, he got almost no awards season love.

The first hour is flawless, but then it gets away from the crisis of faith story and suffers for it. Hawke is brilliant, though, and should have won an Oscar for his performance here.

7/10. Ethan Hawke was brilliant as were Amanda Seyfried and Cedric the Entertainer, and the Academy ratio makes it feel uncomfortably claustrophobic. The last half-hour or so felt apart for me.

7.5/10 - Typical Paul Schrader movie. Compelling as hell, really pulls you in, then gives a somewhat unsatisfying ending that is open to interpretation. But well worth the watch.
