Unless I'm mistaken, these two never starred in a movie together.

Egos probably the big factor---plus Eastwood only does "commercial" films as a balance for his arty ones. He also stayed in Hollywood once he came back from Italy. Connery seemed to be based in Europe--and only came back on Hollywood's radar with the Untouchables. Michael Caine said Connery didn't want to take supporting roles--he wanted leading man status, so he wasn't getting the parts any more (though officially I thought he retired because of negative experiences making League of Extraordinary Gentlemen).

Too bad they'll never have the chance to work together now.

Would have made a great Western, in which an Scottish railroad tycoon came to put his tracks through Eastwood's farm land.
"Get off my lawn!"
Then Connery says, "After I take your land, whether it's purchased outright or over your dead body... I'll celebrate with a martini, shaken not stirred."

Oh man. Think of what could have been. Oh maybe a crossover between James Bond and Jonathan Hemlock?
