Venerable Matt Talbot can be considered the patron of men and women struggling with alcoholism. Matt was born in Dublin, where his father worked on the docks and had a difficult time supporting his family. After a few years of schooling, Matt obtained work as a messenger for some liquor merchants; there he began to drink excessively. For 15 years—until he was almost 30—Matt was an active alcoholic. I got a old little booklet about him (see picture below). from what I was told was my great uncles. it has a date in it Feb 26th 1947 which according to what it says on the first page is the first printing as second printing was April 1947 and so on. after taking a quick look online I found it as here is what the cover looks like...

In my old hometown there was a mission that tried to help the bums, give them a place to sleep, etc. It was called the Talbot House. Several hours ago it suddenly hit me who it was probably named after.
