Spin the Bottle is in my top 2 episodes of Angel Season 4 too. What is you other favorite? Mine is Orpheus.
I really liked 'Orpheus' too. I felt that episode had a very 'unique' feel to it (probably having Willow crossover and actually interact with the gang had something to do with that - whereas her last crossover in the Season 2 final was merely a cameo). I really enjoyed Faith travelling through the memories of Angelus/Angel (I particularly liked the doughnut shop scene, with 'Mandy' playing in the background. And I felt so sorry for Angel there, as he tried to do the right thing, but just couldn't fight the thirst for blood. I totally agreed with Faith when she said, "Wasn't even his fault. God, does the guy gotta pay for everything?" - Angel took on so much guilt, even when he didn't deserve it, that you couldn't help but feel for the guy. I loved that Faith became so loyal to Angel and helping/saving him after he had helped/saved her previously).
However, my second episode in Season 4 that's my favourite is the season final, 'Home'. I realise this might not be a popular opinion, and when I first watched it, I didn't know quite what to make of it, but what Angel did for his son and the episode's ending really got to me. I found it quite emotional (which very few episodes on either show have ever managed to make me feel, despite some coming quite close to doing so).

I'm a big fan of "Home." Like Buffy's Season 4 Finale, it acts as a nice coda to the chaos and action of the season, as well as establishing and foreshadowing where our characters will be going in season 5.
And yes, what Angel did is a very powerful act and just another one of the many sacrifices to his own happiness that Angel has committed as a soldier for good. It almost seems unfair how much he has to give up.

Yes, Chalice, I agree, Orpheus is a unique episode and having Willow actually interact with the gang and have her be the one to reensoul Angelus was very fitting since it was her first spell. I have to giggle at Alyson's interaction with Alexis since I believe at that point they were engaged to each other. And her interaction with Fred was hilarious. Also, Willow going up against Evil Cordy/Jasmine was great, because we all know how powerful Willow can be and her struggles with magic in the previous season, so her control and success is great here. I also like that she hugs Angel; their subtle friendship is so sweet.
Faith is such a wonderful character, and to see her come full circle and not only help Angel the way he helped her, but to be comfortable in her skin as a Slayer is great for her character. And we get to see what might have been had things gone down differently between her and Wesley. To see him acting as a Watcher to her and Faith being open to being taught instead of rebelling showed so much growth for both characters. I love their exchange in the car, in Salvage I think, when she said that she was not going to kill Angel and that "he was the only one who was ever there for her" and then Wes responds that that is why it had to be her is one of my favorite exchanges. I love that this Faith arc showed that she has grown and matured but is still Faith (you see this more when she gets back on Buffy). Then her exchange with Angel in the alley about how "our time is never up"/redemption is never ending was fantastic! A great personal growth and bonding moment for both Angel and Faith.
No, Chalice, I absolutely ADORE Home! I felt the same way you did when I first watched it. And, like you, not many episodes struck a major emotional cord with me (both Angel and Buffy always make me feel, I just mean there was something extra here), this one did; just like The Trial. It is my third favorite episode of season 4. Orpheus barely beats it out only because of Willow, Faith, and the flashbacks. Home is a beautiful episode and such a great way to end the season; a good companion piece/bookend to the season openor Deep Down. I agree with you and PreachCaleb in that what Angel does for Conner is such a beautiful sacrifice and justifies (is that the right word for it?) the gang's decision to take over the LA branch of W&H. Home was a great setup for season 5, and, I know I've said this before, had the show been renewed for a 6th season (*shakes fist at WB network*) I think they would have gone back to the beginning of helping the helpless, after all Spike and Cordelia (in her brief appearance) were kind of already on that bandwagon, and gone back to a more season 1 feel. That would have been a great arc for the show/complete series. The episode also gets me every time I watch it. Even the song on the soundtrack does it too. I love the return of Lilah! Great closure for her character and her and Wes's relationship. I love that he tried to set her free; a beautiful moment for them, especially since she was a bad guy.
Home, to me, makes all of the chaos and bad stuff that happened in season 4, and the end of season 3, worth it.
I could go on and on, but I will leave it there, lol.

Sorry for not posting more frequently in this section, however I am now finished with season 1 and 2 and have just began on season three, but I will hopefully finish season 3 and 4 within this year and maybe then write a review of each and one of the seasons. Anyway, I really enjoy watching 5 episodes a week, and while the whole Angel and Buffy romance part during season 1 and 2 was becoming to be a bit "too much" for my taste, I have still not yet seen an episode which I would describe as poor or weak and as of now I would probably rate the show (from watching the first two seasons) a solid 8,5/10.

It's done over two episodes: surprise and innocence. That scene at the beginning of innocence where he bites the smoker and blows the smoke out of his own mouth always gets me - it's so good.

He's just so cruel and hurtful. The words are painful to hear - even for a "grown up".

Lies my parents told me. Has to be one of my favourite episodes. All about mother/children relationships (with Giles standing in for Buffy's parent). The cruelty of Spike's turned mom is right up there with Angel's comments to Buffy after she gives him her virginity. Well, he's more cruel than Spike's mom.
I'm not watching in any order. I have a bunch pvr'd and just watch random ones as the mood strikes. Also love Drusilla's face when Spike suggests that his mother come along with them (on their honeymoon?) as they tear through Europe. Priceless.
Also love the lighting in the scene where the prokaryote stone first takes effect. And Dawn's "did you do some kind of spell" after Willow tells here she'll be all right. And Willow's dry reply of that's what people say.

I agree with all of what you said, mmexis!
I too usually don't watch the shows in order. I watch whatever episode I'm in the mood for.
Lies My Parent Told Me is one of my favorite episodes too. Definitely of season 7. Lol at Dru's face! Not only that but Spike's casual way of saying it to her "You, me and mother", like of course I am bringing my mother with us. What planet are you from Dru? LOL! And then Drusilla's response to Spike's mother "I'm the person who gave birth to your son"

Yes, it's absolutely horrible! But wonderfully acted and so well done! (written, directed, etc.)

That's great to hear. Sounds like it's being an enjoyable experience for you. Yeah, I can't complain. However I am now 8 episodes in to season 3 and I gotta be honest, I am getting very, very tired of the seemingly neverending Angel-Buffy romance story and to even make things more annoying the new baddies are very poor and forgettable, specially compared to season 1 and 2, along with yet another romantic adventure about to unfold where Xander and Willow is getting hot and "dirty". A little romance never hurt anybody but this is beginning to remind of something out of Dawsons Creek and I do hope things will become slightly better quality wise in this season, as of now I would probably rate the first 8 episodes from season 3 waaaay down low at the bottom if compared to the season 2 and season 1. On the positive note, I do grow fond of Faith, not my favorite character but she sure was a much needed breath of air in a rather lame/disappointing intro/start of season 3, and hopefully she will stick around for a while and the romance plot will either die out or just take a long break.

Spike doing his version of I Did It My Way the Sid Vicious hit was hilarious and the perfect way of ending the best episode that I have seen of Buffy for a while now. Even the romantic drama stuff did work really well, and yeah it took a little while but the last two episodes have been a big upgrade compared to the the other season 3 episodes I have seen lately. Last night it was the Wish which I think was the very first introduction with Anya (Emma Caulfield) but not the one I remember from season 4? 5 and onwards (when seeing the show back in 2002-03). The episode from season 2 where Xander wishes for Cordelia to love him and nobody else was very funny and one of my favorites of that season, but The Wish which turns Sunnydale into a vampire heaven is more ok/decent, but still I enjoyed seeing Willow as a very vampy vampire, she kind of looked like Bloodrayne in that episode. All in all, I am pleased that the show seems to be back at being great again, took 6-7 episodes but it was worth it and hopefully more great ones will soon arrive.

Last night I watched the season 3 episode: Zeppo The Xander episode of season 2 was one of the funniest and most enjoyable of the show or those I have seen until now, but Zeppo was a painful carwreck of chaotic and awful stuff happening all over the place and I was almost expecting some kind of overused punchline like Xander waking up from a bad dream or something, right at the end, but no, it all happened and it was mostly non funny or annoying as hell. Easily the worst episode I have seen of the first three seasons and it is kind of sad as Xander is one of my favorite characters and he deserved a far better episode than this mess.

How interesting as The Zeppo is often hailed as one of Xander's best episodes.

I only have seen two or three Xander episodes (or so I can remember for now) but this one did not sit well with me. Too much and too little and it is a shame because I had hoped for a bit more "serious" tone with this one, specially with Xander maybe standing up to his bully problems or the fact the he felt like the fifth wheel of the group but instead it just ended up becoming way too much all at once and for me this did not go well down.

Bad Girls and Consequences is finished, not very impressive either one of them. I kind of liked Faith early on but right now she is getting more and more tiredsome and I almost wish Buffy would just beat the crap out of her and dump her out of the show permanently. And that ridiculous and completely non-threating joke of a henchman, Mr. Trick, well he finally went out and he will not be missed. A real shame that the only "worthy" villain character now is likely gonna be Faith as that probably means she will be on for several more episodes to come. Season 3 has been a big letdown for me, not even close of season 2 and I know there are still lots more but something really good has to happen if it will stand any chance of trying to "catch up" with season 1, which I would put over what I have seen of the third season any day.
