Does this film get unnecessary hate?

8/10. Does it compared to Abrams' other work?

Started great, but as it went along I lost interest, I guess I wasn't the target audience.

I liked it more than disliked it, even though I generally dislike movies or t.v. shows in which the protagonists are kids riding around on bicycles. I found it mildly annoying how the movie hit us over the head with period references to establish it taking place in 1979. Breakout role for Elle Fanning, who truly impressed me.

7/10 - Lost some steam in the 2nd half, but still an okay movie.
