The official story is that Gus Grissom panicked and opened the hatch of his Mercury capsule too soon while waiting to be recovered, sending the capsule to the bottom of the ocean. Why then, I cannot help but wonder, was he chosen to lead the Apollo 1 mission? Why not Alan Shepard or John Glenn? Out of the seven original Mercury astronauts, why was the "panicky" one chosen?
You've got to be a Freemason if you want to have a successful liftoff. Don't rock the boat. Or perhaps don't rock the space capsule is a better choice of words.

How much does it cost to arrange a contract murder involving a train accident?

How much does it cost to arrange a contract murder involving a train accident? I thought they said Thomas Baron's car was hit by a train, not that he was on a train that crashed.

You kill the person you want dead, put his body in his car, and park the car on a railroad track a few minutes before a train comes by. How hard was that?

Sure, and they put in his wife and step-daughter too for good measure. These guys must have been pros!

If the Soviets can bump people off, why not NASA?

People I've known have had things like this happen to their loved ones. The government will never, never, never talk about it. Move along, folks. Nothing to see here.

No, that is not in fact the official story. The official story was that the hatch blew prematurely for unknown reasons. The suspicion fell on Grissom because explosive bolts firing by themselves is a very, very rare thing - verging on impossible. Many who knew Grissom personally said much the same thing about his panicking and firing the bolts early. In truth, we will probably never know.

Did Grissom have a history of being panic prone? I don't know much about the history of the space program, but I didn't hear or see anything from the clip indicating it.
