I'm almost finished reading this book, which I picked up while on holidays. Of course, it says in it that some of these 12 belief systems are not 'religions' according to some definitions. They also didn't make Jehovah Witnesses a separate religion, just a mention in the Christianity section. The book breaks down each of the 12 into sections on history, major figures, texts, beliefs, all sorts of stuff. It also has a nice opening chapter called Ancient Foundations where you get an overview of Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece/Rome, and Ancient Nordic mythology. The chapter that surprised me the most was the one on Sikhism. I ended up really liking most things about their religion/culture. Judaism and Islam were the big losers. Just my opinion but those two are nothing but silly nonsense.

That looks like a very interesting book; I've often wished that a book like this would come along and people could read about the differences and similarities, and stop demonizing the "other".
I actually made a necklace with symbols of about 9 of these; I call it my "coexist" necklace. It has started more than a few conversations.

I'm covered in tattoos, lots from dozens of religions, cultures, and belief systems from all over the world. All beautiful stories and meanings throughout time and place. All with a common theme of trying to make sense of life and the cosmos. All promoting oneness with nature and the universe.

One of the symbols on my necklace belonged to my grandfather; a crucifix in bas relief, a token sent to him from a Catholic group, I think the Church of the Little Rose, in return for his donation. It is one of the few items I have that was his; he died when I was just a year old. The crucifix is a genuine antique; probably one of a kind, now. The other symbols, I've picked up in antique stores, some of the Eastern ones in Hawaii when I visited there. Since I studied Oriental Art History in college, I see beauty in the statues of the Buddha, and Hindu deities. If only humans would honor the positive messages of all these belief systems, and not fight over them.

Christianitymore specifically... Catholic. because the Catholic church is the true church of Jesus Christ since it's the one He started with Peter (Matthew 16:18), who's basically the first Pope, and went down through the generations til today. a list of Popes from Peter to date... www.newadvent.org/cathen/12272b.htm ; so basically it's the one He guides. or look at it this way... the Catholic church is started by God (i.e. The Holy Trinity (Father/Son(Jesus Christ)/Holy Spirit)) where as others are started by man. so in other words... the Catholic church has the whole truth where as others only have some of it mixed in with error where as the Catholic church is infallible on it's official teachings on faith/morals (i.e. www.ewtn.com/faith/teachings/chura4.htm ). so it's unwise to be outside of the Catholic church as you lower your chances of reaching Heaven.

I love tattoos. I've been going hard for the past few years. Spent a few thousand dollars.

poem eighteen thousand four hundred thirty two
i applied for a permit to install a sculpture of the soon to be fused iranian kids with the already de-comped iraqi kids.
i’m calling it: test markets for an enlightened age.
however, there appears to be a defense contractor who claims to have already snatched up that title and has proof they’ve used it on billboards along gaza.
what’s a sculptor to do?
sjw 07/02/19 inspired at this very moment in time by sticking points all around.
from the 'blitzkrieg series' of poems

I am absolutely certain that you are totally wrong. Whilst all religions are misguided, Catholicism is up there with Islam as the worst. Your truth is not truth and your religion is one of pain and suffering, repression and power and control over people particularly women and children. Allowing women who don't want babies to get pregnant due to lacking modern birth control in this day and age,(then prohibiting abortion) allowing people to die of AIDS due to the prohibition of condoms and the persecution of homosexuals, lest we forget the disgusting disgraceful paedophile priests, the missionaries destroying native cultures and the obscene wealth of the Catholic Church. It can be just plain nasty.

I'm with mslo79.We both love the Catholic Christian Church, & will never, ever leave.

I'm with mslo79 .We both love the Catholic Christian Church, & will never, ever leave. If you are a woman who was FORCED by a man or men to have sex... and you find yourself pregnant, or infected with AIDS which will affect the fetus and eventually kill you... Then what? Just suffer? Your "NO" doesn't count? No one will help you? You just have to play the hand that you were dealt? How *compassionate*. You believe your faith will take you to a heavenly afterlife. But what about improving life in the here-and-now? Does everyone have to suffer? Can't we, as humans, minimize suffering? Can we not, through education and advances in medical science, improve not just human life, but also the life of the planet? You don't have to stop being a Catholic to be more humanist. If you focus on what is best in the here-and-now, the hereafter, if there is one, will take care of itself.

Fact: People who have been conceived by rape, HATE being cited as reasons for abortion. Newsflash: Catholics (& other kinds of Christians) DO work to improve life in the here & now. That is why the vast majority of the charity organizations in the world are Christian-based. Even hospitals were started by Christians.

Nice avatar, Kiera and sorry I forgot to wish you birthday this time around. Hi AJ, Haven't seen you around in a while. Hi Clusium Hope you are doing well! Yes, I have been a bit busy lately in new job and don't really get time these days. But I have now shifted to a new home just near my office so hopefully now I can be more here as I don't have to waste my time on travelling.

I'm with mslo79 .We both love the Catholic Christian Church, & will never, ever leave. This response is SO ridiculous that I actually laughed out loud! A single Catholic woman talking about abstinence! Tell that to the zillions of married women in Catholic countries who might already have multiple children, don't want/can't afford more and see the look on their faces as they contemplate years ahead of refusing their husbands sex! Tell that to the millions of people in Africa and Asia with AIDS that could have been prevented. It is criminal. WHY the fuck, if we have the technology to prevent pregnancies and disease SHOULDN'T we use it? BTW no one is asking you to leave your beloved church, just wise up to its many and varied deficiencies and fight to change them to be more human and realistic. There is so much that is so wrong.
