There are some products, especially really big ones, that have staying power on the airwaves. For example, soda pop. The really big ones, such as Coke and Pepsi that are on every day. But I remember back when A & W Root beer had a commercial with a catchy jingle. And that was on for maybe a couple of years or whatever and now I haven't seen one for eons. Same thing with Dr. Pepper. Or Hamms beer. They have tons of ads on YouTube that shows they have run commercials for years and I remember seeing them on TV. Why don't they have ads anymore?
And then there are other popular products and brands that have an ad for a few months or a year or two but then they quit advertising. Like Maytag washers or Fridgedare appliances or Frito Lay chips etc, etc. I don't watch as much TV as I used to so maybe I'm not aware of ads as I used to be. But I just wonder why certain companies have advertising staying power and others don't even though they are also pretty big.
We see the same major companies over and over and over again. And then once in a while, for a bit, another one comes in only to fade out. Why is that?

They're still showing Maytag commercials... As for the others, I've been wondering the same thing myself.

It depends on the commercial... If I ever see this disgusting commercial with pregnant women in christmas pajamas again I will scream! even in christmas time!
I love the maytag guy. totally bangable even to this day. and the old one was a sweet old man.
I just can't see 'time to make the donuts', 'where's the beef?' or 'Mikey Likes it!' today.

On the other hand, why do some ad campaigns keep coming back?
Like the "Happy Honda-days" one with the carolers and rioting that's been recycled for what seems like half a decade?

I haven't seen the happy honda days I don't think ever but I know what you mean.... the We wish you a merry christmas bells with Hershey kisses is just adorable and simple. same with the Santa and the M&M's they do exist commercial. brings both sides of fantasy to reality to each other. you don't need half naked women washing cars and selling pepsi to get the message across.
