Comics haters: "Stan Lee never put social justice stuff in his comics!"
Stan Lee (from beyond the grave): "I don't think you were laying attention.)

Wonder how this video will be received on a board whose members simultaneously insist they aren't sexist and racist, and complain about every female and minority character in the new movies.

Wonder how this video will be received on a board whose members simultaneously insist they aren't sexist and racist, and complain about every female and minority character in the new movies. My opinion on the video is forthcoming. And I do have complaints on other characters besides the females/minorities (Rey, Finn, Holdo). Hux was turned into an incompetent stooge in TLJ. He is a joke of a military leader. Especially someone of his rank and authority. Kylo has the same problem that Darkside Anakin had in the prequels: sometimes he comes off as too childish and whinny. So what does that make me? Opinion on the video forthcoming.

A video I thought was interesting. Well first off, I'll give the video maker credit for addressing some sobering issues and flaws within the comic book genre culture. Albeit I think he generalized at it a few times. But let me get into the more debatable points. He really hi-lighted the double standard of women characters having to explain and justify their powers where as male characters don't (as he put it). Good point! I mean Iron Man never explained the powers and development of his suit. Oh wait, he did. Well the Hulk never explained his powers in the movies. Oh wait, yes he did. Rather thoroughly. Batman never explained his tech, training, and ability in the movies. Uh, actually he did! Especially in the Nolan ones. Captain America didn't. Oh wait, he had an origin story that did that. Black Panther? Never explained his powers and armor? You would have had to been sleeping if you missed it. Maybe Aquaman? They did delve into that actually. Well they didn't do it in SW, that must be it! Anakin? Midichlorians, Chosen One, training. Luke? Okay, minimal training but still some training (tempered by a learning curve), strong Force bloodlines. Yeah. He's totally full of crap on that one! On to the next problem with the video. He actually tries to trash other strong female characters like Sarah Conner and Ripley. I forgot what he called them: something like one dimensional violence machines or some such. I'm going to post a video that helps explain why that's nonsense. But his biggest mistake might be forcing (no pun intended) Rey into his argument about how female comic characters are treated. They're different universes. There's different rules in the respective universes. Rey bends and breaks more rules. And she also have to deal with less genuinely negative tropes and misogynistic nuances in her genre. I could elaborate, but I won't unless asked. So yeah, there's some holes in his overall narrative he tried to pass off as legitimate with some of the more sober, credible points he brought out.

I'll be equally curious! LOL This video does a good job of addressing my issues with Rey, albeit it doesn't cover a few important things. But still... I also agree with his choices and criteria for good/strong SW heroines and sci-fantasy heroines.
