Been a fan since the mid-70s. My father had a copy of the first one. Two of them take place in a country no one thought the US would ever have anything to do with - Afghanistan. Though condemned for Flashy's sexism and racism, it's important to bear in mind the novels ridicule the bases of those two things in imperialism, militarism, and aristocracy.

Huge fan. They are among the most entertaining historical novels ever written.
My favourite is Flashman and the Redskins.

Huge fan. They are among the most entertaining historical novels ever written. My favourite is Flashman and the Redskins. In which Flashy survives the Battle of the Little Bighorn!

Yes, I've read them all. My favourite one is Flashman's Lady - Elspeth's diary entries are hilarious. But my favourite books by Fraser are his army stories - especially The General Danced at Dawn. I love Quartered Safe Out here as well.

Great! The first and third have a lot to do with Afghanistan. In Flash for Freedom, Flashy comes across Frederick Douglas and young Abraham Lincoln.

Yes! Iβve read them all, at least twice. A history loverβs delight... Funny and action-packed, populated by hordes of fascinating real-life characters.

In Flash For Freedom, our highly unreliable narrator, Flashman himself, tells of meeting young Abe Lincoln and leaving him with some words of advice, "You can fool some of the people some of the time..."

Richard Lester made a movie out of Royal Flash. I didn't care for it.

I've never read any of them yet but I would like to. I understand that Harry Flashman is a complete lout, but you can't help liking him for some reason.
