This is all speculative, but does anyone suppose the movie would’ve fared better if it hadn’t been for the reshoots, or did they make no difference?

If this movie was simply titled X-Men: Phoenix instead of Dark Phoenix and if the selling point wasn’t Jean becoming evil then there wouldn’t have been as much negativity around the film. Because Jean doesn’t really become the Dark Phoenix in this movie, which was an intentional creative choice based on the interviews I have read and the film’s message.
I’ve seen a lot of critics having complaints about the movie not committing to making Jean evil or they completely misread it with their preconceived notions thinking Jean’s arc is the same as X3. And of course, the movie going audience doesn’t response to false advertisement very well.

Should I include that as an option?

The studio should have kept it as two movies.
