I think most people are beyond caring about changing the race/gender of "beloved" characters. It seems to be every other franchise these days. It's one step away from becoming meme level self-parody.
"Let's remake Toy Story, but Woody's a Muslim lesbian in a wheelchair!"
Personally I have no issue as I never cared about most of these characters to begin with and I like experimental casting (I'm Not There for instance), but you have to wonder if they're doing it for artistic reasons and the benefit of the story or just for hype, click-bait and cashing in on the latest "trend".

This isn't really a case of race/gender bending. Daniel Craig is playing James Bond in the new movie, it seems obvious to me that in this installment Bond is retired and there's a new agent using the 007 codename and it happens to be a black female. This isn't really a new thing and it shouldn't be controversial. There were black female agents in at least two Bond movies I can think of off the top of my head, Live & Let Die and Die Another Day.

When will they f-cking learn? Why f-ck with an established product? Why not make something original and avoid the clusterfuck of hate that this decision will rightfully get? What is the point?

James Bond is James Bond, remove that character and the series is no longer that series.
if they do any drastic changes, it's just more BS from the left ruining a good thing.

Exactly. And not only that... In the second to last (original) Bond novel by Ian Fleming, You Only Live Twice, James Bond is demoted from the 00-section -- losing his license to kill -- for being a drunken fuck-up in the wake of his wife Tracy's murder. He is re-designated Agent "7777" and given a diplomatic mission in Japan. By the end of the next book ( The Man With the Golden Gun), Bond has won back his Double-0 status. Bond will doubtless be "007" again by the end of B25. People wigging out about this need to get a grip. It's ridiculous.

This is likely Craig's last movie, so the whole point of the film may be that not only is Bond ready to move on from MI6, but that MI6 is ready to move past Bond. I feel a lot of the thematics that were hinted at in Goldeneye will be in this movie. It was never fully explored but Goldeneye was the post-Cold War 007 movie. Judi Dench's M was a data analytical that wanted to move MI6 away from the Cold War politics and the "misogynist dinosaur". Perhaps the point of this movie will be that MI6 no longer requires the "Blunt instrument" (as Bond was described in Casino Royale), and Bond isn't up to the task anyway. Perhaps in this movie the war-worn blunt instrument needs the help of a younger, tech savvy, stealthier, attack from behind, not head on, new 007. I'm excited to see a Bond movie that gives us an ending for Bond, instead of just setting up the next movie. I feel Daniel Craig's Bond franchise has been just as inconsistent as any other, but that he is without a doubt the best actor to play the role, so I feel his Bond deserves to be given an actual ending. They can reboot the franchise with a new actor 5-7 years down the line, but let Daniel Craig's Bond have an ending, let him finally retire happy knowing somebody capable has taken over his number.

Actually it would be pretty funny if this new "007" said something like "Shall we shag now, or shag later?"
Maybe they should make her "006" or "008" and she gets killed at the end. That would be more fitting.

Is it wrong that my overwhelming response to this story is, "Wow, she's really not very attractive"? Why couldn't it be a Gugu Mbatha-Raw or a Piper Perabo?
