Book-readers used to be elitist about printed books (the elitists preferred handwritten). I guess using a machine to print books was seen as cheating.
In my opinion, the only advantage that physical books have over e-readers is that there is no need to worry about battery life.
Some people say "the smell tho". If one truly enjoys the smell of dusty paper, surely they can grab a physical book off the shelf, and take a big ol' whiff before starting up the e-reader?
But you are correct. The reasons many give for shunning e-readers do come across as elitist, sorry.

I have one but never use it. Mind you I rarely read real books either.

If it's a Kindle Paperwhite, it's a hassle when downloading free eBooks from the library, too.

If you think of reading books as some type of status symbol as opposed to just doing it because you enjoy it you're kind of a pathetic douchebag anyway. I get many of the books I read from the library but will buy them as well from the rapidly disappearing used book store, consignment shops etc... I bought over 50 books last week for less than a quarter each. Good titles too. Some cozy mysteries for my sister but mostly hard boiled crime fiction and horror.
It's funny in a sad way that kindle users always seem so defensive and desperate to convince others to use them as well. Sup with that yo?

I don't have a kindle and don't want one. I don't like reading off a computer screen so I don't think I would enjoy a kindle. I limit my time on the computer. I'm happy with my old fashion printed books and since there are trees grown purposely for paper on tree farms and the rest is from second growth forests, I don't feel guilty - no old growth forests are being wiped out for my paper books.

I use my tablet to read e-books. At this point I prefer e-books to paper ones, although I do still buy and read real books.
