Will Rey need a new lightsaber? She gave Luke's back to Luke, right? Will it be any different? New color; green, pink?

She and Krybaby Ren broke Luke's lightsaber, so either she'll repair it or craft a new one. And from what we see in the new trailer, it appears it is still blue and looks pretty much as it did before it was broken. Kind of a shame, was looking forward to her having a double-bladed lightsaber with one blue blade (Skywalker legacy) and one green (forging her own new destiny, like her father/uncle before her).

The breaking of the lightsaber pretty much symbolised the "kill the past" philosophy of the Last Jedi.
Personally, if I were making Ep IX the opening scene would be Rey repairing it. Taking the battery out, welding the two halves together, putting a new battery in, etc. Kind of like the "reforging the sword" scene in Lord of the Rings. Just a little "yeah, the past isn't so dead" message to The Last Jedi.

I actually wrote a fanfic about her repairing the old lightsaber (With some help from Leia), and the first title that popped into my head was, "Renewed shall be the blade that was broken", all LOTR-like.

It's a powerful image, isn't it? Honestly, if I was going to do something else I'd make Rey Luke's daughter. I'd explain the whole "you can sense that they were nobody" thing by saying that Luke deliberately clouded the force around Rey to protect her or something. It would subvery expectations!

In my fic, I made her Luke's niece, but that was more for my excuse for why Leia gave her the crystal she gave her (long story condensed, Luke had given Leia a crystal years ago before he trained Ben/Kylo. She made it into a piece of her Mother's Ring all the promos were sure to show her wearing, her plan had been to let Ben have the 'Skywalker lightsaber' that had been Luke's/Ani's, while her daughter Breha Organa-Solo would get this other crystal within a new lightsaber. So Rey, in order to deal with issues brought by breaking the weapon, has to make a longer handle with twin blades- one blue/Skywalker and one green/Organa), but that could work -- Luke handed her off to someone, after erasing Rey's memories of home/family/Jedi/etc., and whomever he left her with knew only that she was a child of a Rebel Alliance fighter who was going to do some undercover work and couldn't watch their daughter while doing that, and maybe that person lost Rey somehow, which is how she ended up in Jakku. So Luke almost made it impossible for him to find his own daughter, for his daughter to find him, or for anyone to use him to find her/vice versa... Granted, I also like the idea that she's Han & Leia's daughter, and Luke did all that same stuff with her memory, to ensure her safety from the First Order/Kylo, as well as making sure she couldn't be used to find Luke or threatened to draw Luke out.

The new one should unfold into an umbrella and then we learn that she is in fact Mary Poppins, who is in fact a Jedi.
