Awesome, Seven was a great character. Never understood Voyager's bad rep with characters like Seven and the Doctor.

I think Seven of Nine was too obviously a T and A character addition however the Doctor was great. The best non-Spock character clone (although Data became more interesting in the movies).
I do feel sorry for Neelix's wife--what was her name, Kes? She was not a particularly interesting character but I understand they removed her instead of Garrett Wang (quick! Your favorite Harry Kim quotes) for nilly willy reasons. But they should have given her longer hair. The way they short-circuited the Maquis plot was too bad since that was an interesting conflict within the ship and could have been a catalyst for lots of things.

Well haha I mean there wasn't left much to the imagination with the costume. But at least they finally let Janeway put her hair down. Good God that hairstyle in the first few seasons was awful.

I think Seven of Nine was too obviously a T and A character addition While she definitely had that aspect to her, she was also the best actor with the most interesting storyline in my opinion. My main gripe is the later seasons were pretty Seven heavy to the detriment of the other characters, but I guess that was a case of putting your best foot forward.

My main gripe is the later seasons were pretty Seven heavy to the detriment of the other characters, but I guess that was a case of putting your best foot forward. They already had their Spock surrogate--the Doctor (not so much Tuvok since he was full vulcan)-the Doctor at least was a computer program who was becoming more human over time--though he didn't have any conflicts from what I remember). Seven of Nine was basically a T and A version of Data though with a more sinister origin. But she crossed over into the Doctor's territory as well as Tuvok's since she was also presented as a science genius.
I suppose they can now do interesting things with her considering the "Hugh" participation. That is the one aspect of it that I am curious about.

Seven of Nine was basically a T and A version of Data though with a more sinister origin. But she crossed over into the Doctor's territory Yes, there were definitely similarities between her, Data and the Doctor. But I think it was generally best handled with her. Data in 7 seasons never really got anywhere with becoming more human. The Doctor on the other hand became very human very quickly with the odd episode thrown in to remind us he's not actually human. Seven struggled, but made gradual progress. And she differed from those characters in the fact she was technically human to begin with but her humanity was taken from her. More than that, she had a unique relationship with Janeway. The writers had tried something similar with Kes and Janeway but it never quite worked because there was no real conflict there. Seven and Janeway's relationship was often nurturing but also often fractious. I suppose something similar could have been done with Torres and Janeway and there were hints of that in Season 1, but Torres chilled out quite a bit after that and had more interaction with Paris and Chakotay. Actually Tuvok was never really portrayed as a scientific genius, he was more tactical. Before Seven became more central, Kim and Janeway herself were more the science experts. But Janeway had other stuff to do and Kim was a weak character from the start so fair enough.

A curious addition to the show, and hearing that Hugh is coming back I'm imagining Seven went to work with the Borg group from 'Descent' and they helped each other with re-claiming their humanity. It might be nice if she now goes by Annika, to show she's developed over the years.

but Torres chilled out quite a bit after that Oh yeah I forgot about her. Star Trek suffered from too many trips to the well. It's funny how Star Wars fans would mock Star Trek for that over-extension, but their time was coming.

It probably didn't help that she was screwing Brannon Braga after she joined the show, and that the show became far more Seven-centric as it went on; a lot of the actors assumed those two things were related. Kate Mulgrew admits that she hated Ryan throughout her time on Voyager and didn't hold back from saying so to Ryan's face. Ryan even thought about quitting at one point, but then her mother got cancer and she was worried about the medical bills heading her way, so she stayed on. Voyager wasn't a happy set for the most part. There are a whole set of stories to that effect, that's just one of them.

I have, yeah. In fairness, probably should say that Mulgrew was going through some rough stuff at home during Voyager, too. She had to put important stuff (like her kid) on the back burner to do Voyager, so seeing Ryan come along and become (arguably) more popular than her, the star of the show, probably wasn't at all easy.

After what Garrett Wang said, He gave me the impression that if Jeri Ryan and Kate Mulgrew ever saw each other again in person (maybe they already have since that video was taken) then things between the 2 of them would be good again.
Again, That is just the impression that I myself got.

I don't know about good, but I don't think they'd be angry at one another any more. It's water under the bridge.
