Just got back from it and all I gotta say is wow what a letdown this was. It was such a pointless & self indulgent film imo. Leo & Brad had a few cool moments but overall wtf was this Tarantino?!
And lol at some critics saying this was Tarantino's best film since Pulp Fiction haha get the fuck outta here.
5.5/10

With all due respect, I hope you’re wrong. I’ve been looking SO forward to this movie for SO long.

Damn, that's disappointing to hear. RT scores are usually pretty solid.

Got tickets for a showing in about 24 hours and I’m hearing it’s not what a lot of people hoped.
I still have high expectations, though.

^^^ Its probably my own fault tbh. I had this film so hyped up for so long. But I was just taken aback by how pointless/pretenious/self indulgent it was.
In the end I will probably be in the minority though. I hope you folks enjoy it more than I did at least haha.

I think sometimes it works for him and sometimes it doesn't.

Self-indulgence and overlength have been problems for Tarantino's last couple of films.

Thats a bit of a shock. Just spotted the IMDb score went from 9.5 to 9.2 in a day too Looks like no Oscars for the massive jawed one for this one

Some critics call it “mature”. I would call it “non tarantinoesque”. (except for the foot fetish, bless his heart) But a very good movie nonetheless.

What about it felt pretentious to u?

Like I said earlier in the thread, its probably my own doing cause I was so hyped to see Dicaprio & Pitt share the screen together in a Tarantino film. Maybe "pretentious" is the wrong word to have used there but Tarantino isn't as clever as he thinks he is. The whole Sharon Tate story line was utterly stupid & pointless imo. As was the Manson cult members. I really don't know, just wasn't feeling this one tbh. Oh well.

7/10. Pretty good, very long and isn’t a plot driven story. It’s more of a 2.5 hour hangout movie in Sunny California, has very entertaining performances and is pretty funny. The one scene of violence was kinda dumb imo. If you expect a Tarantino-y movie, adjust your expectations.
Was it good? Yeah, I’d say it was pretty good for the most part. I definitely have some problems with it. But considering the cast, the setting, the premise, and the fact it was in the Hands of Quentin Tarantino....it’s a little disappointing.

I really liked it. Probably my new favorite of the year...which unfortunately isn’t saying a whole lot because I haven’t been real impressed with the output this year, but I liked this a lot.
Once you get over the fact that this is not Tarantino in his usual form, it’s a great movie. About halfway through I surrendered to the different look and feel than what we’re accustomed to and enjoyed it immensely. Brad Pitt was so good in this.

Clif and Rick were interesting enough character to have a movie just about them.

How are the Bruce Lee/Steve McQueen/Sam Wanamaker lookalikes? I know they use makeup but are they somewhat convincing in look/voice?

A friend of mine saw it last night and said the same thing. Basically that it felt long. In the bad way.
