Have you really gave out a laugh everytime you typed LOL? Do you type LOL sometimes just to be polite but there was no laugh? Has there been a time where it was amusing but you didn't laugh but you still typed LOL? Are you a big laugher in general or do you laugh on the inside more?

That's a good question. No, I am not usually laughing when I type LOL. I do think some people over use it and, yes, often to be polite.

Catman does not use that particular internet initialism. The only time he might use that combination of letters is when discussing core rope memory, but that rarely comes up in day-to-day conversation.

I use it and some of the icons in a figurative sense. It has nothing to do with honesty.

Maybe laughing on the inside. I'm typically too shy and self-conscious to laugh out loud.

I don't know why I necessarily have to be laughing when I'm sending lots of love.

I don't use it very often. Usually when I do use it as a reply I am not literally laughing. Sometimes when I am posting something intended as a joke I add it to let people know I'm joking and not being serious. More often though I'll type "Hahaha" for funny things I'm typing.

One of my coworkers on Facebook sprinkles the LOL's throughout her posts, often starting off a sentence with one, a couple mixed in, and ending with a capitalized one. I doubt very much if you're laughing that much, Sharon !

Rarely type it but when I do, I am laughing out loud !
Have noticed that people with ZERO sense of humor will often add it to indicate that what they have said is supposed to be amusing (but rarely actually is!)

and then there are the totally inappropriate "Lol's" that appear like tics …"sorry your cat died, but better him than your mom, LOL"

I prefer to use smileys like Even then I'm usually just smiling, not laughing out loud.

Pretty much. If it elicits a chortle I’ll consider that a ‘LOL’.

I don't believe I've ever typed "LOL".
Unless it was on the end of a post directed towards the user known as "bioslave".
