There are five anime series, many theatrical and tv movies and many direct to video movies which are known in Japan as OVAs or Original Video Animations. I have only seen Miyazaki's film, The Castle of Cagliostro and the first episode of the first series. I hope to get into it more later but I've got a lot to watch already. The franchise comes from the Lupin the Third comic by the recently deceased artist Monkey Punch which is based off of the book character Arsene Lupin who is known as 'the gentleman thief'. Lupin the Third is his grandson. I figure that there's somebody on here who knows this franchise better than I do, but I know something that most Lupin the Third fans don't which is that there is also an animated series of the original Lupin character.

I did start watching the first show on Crunchyroll and it has the worst intro song for a show ever made. I did watch one of the shows on Adult Swim back in the day. And I did catch a episode of the one airing on there now.

And the show is just as obnoxious as the theme song in that case, the voices being so bad that you can only watch it for about a minute. I watched the first episode of the first series on Crunchy Roll and it was good. You can tell that they based the Macross' main bad guy on the villain of this episode. I will watch the second episode soon. The music for the second and third series is mostly instrumental and much better than that of the first. I listened to the theme years ago even though I never watched the show.

I saw the '79 movie Castle of Cagliostro and I caught a few episodes of the series that features a resurrected Leonardo Da Vinci(?!?) as the villain.
