When someone talks or a sound is made in the dream or do you just perceive the sound? I'm not sure if I ever have or not.

Sort of but it is soft and sort of interpreted without hearing the real thing. I can sort of tell the difference because the sound is sort of 'located' somewhere else most of the time. I don't have many dreams anymore and though I used to remember my dreams I don't tend to anymore.

Not really. So if someone wants to do away with me while I rest, go to town.

I thought the question was about how we perceive the sounds happening in our dreams (based on the supposition there are "sounds" in them).
Because if it's about perceiving sounds happening in our house or room, while we are sleeping, I'm the guy who had to be grabbed by the shoulders and shaken to wake up while something like this was going on in the apartment building:

Yes. My dreams are auditory.
I can also go back and re-dream a dream whilst asleep to change the outcome if I'm not happy with it, sometimes several times over... It's like I can't actually control the new course of the outcome, but I am aware, and can go back and try again.

This is an interesting question. I know I can hear my own voice in the dreams...that I can remember. But when it comes to other people, I'm not sure that I do, or if I do it's like a poster said, it's quiet and more interpretive than actually hearing them speak. I'll try to take note but I don't really remember my dreams that much any more.
