The whole point of Rorschach in the comics was that he was this sad, ugly, smelly, misogynistic, homophobic, socially inept, hypocritical far right extremist. Rorschach was specifically meant to be a deconstruction not just of masked vigilantes, but of the objectivist beliefs of Steve Ditko, who happened to be the creator of the character Rorschach was inspired by. Considering that Alan Moore is extremely left leaning, you can take a wild guess of what he thinks regarding Objectivism. Moore has even said that he does not understand why certain people identify with Rorschach. That’s not to say that Rorschach isn’t an interesting character, but he was most certainly never meant to come across as cool. Zack Snyder unfortunately seemed to miss the memo, since he basically made Rorschach into an R-rated Batman, complete with a growly voice. Fair enough I havent finished the original comics yet. I guess people identify with him because he's damaged, flawed. My best guess All I know is that Alan Moore does not have a high opinion on people who identify with the character. Then again, Alan Moore doesn’t have a high opinion on a lot of things.

He has a high opinion of himself... So there's that.
