I just saw it and I feel kind of empty. Like I watched a whole lot of nothing. Weird, since the movie's main problem is trying to cram too much in 45 minutes. You know, the title doesn't mean there had to be satire of how this decade compares to the 90s. I'm saying this because every joke about it is superficial. Not that the script writers can't come up with good jokes (I did laugh from time to time), but they're designed to be quick and have no impact in the rest of the scene. I don't think it was a good idea to make this about bringing back the FATHEADS show. I know ROCKO liked it, but I don't remember him acting like such an obsessed fan. Even if I'm wrong about this, that happened in 1 episode. A sequel movie made so many years after the end of a show and with the same cast and crew needed a plot that represented what the show was about in general. This movie doesn't even seem to match the timeline of the final episode. Yes, the REALLY REALLY BIG MAN says he'll use his super-powers to make the characters travel back in time... to the 2010s. However, that final episode took place in the 2010s. Also, why does ROCKO say "I think it's not the 90s anymore" if they were coming from the future? FILBURT's children were the ones piloting the rocket. Here, they don't appear until the end and the rocket is apparently flying on its own. The most notorious aspect is that there's a trans character. I'm glad that it didn't feel preachy. They made the right choice with RALPH/RACHEL BIGHEAD, since he was a one-episode guest. He was a memorable character but not one we knew every detail about, so this change didn't feel like retconning. Unfortunately, because of the disjointed plot structure, this feels like a footnote rather than a subplot. Also, the reveal was a little weird. RACHEL comes out of the truck and we see the shoes and dress. However, she was quite clearly a female throughout the scene, based on the hair, the make-up and the boobs. Was this really supposed to be a surprise?

I thought it was just okay. I could have done without the heavy handed message about change and I wish the plot had been different. They don't really explore the 21st century like I hoped they would, they just make obvious jokes. It was fun to see all the old characters though and I did have a few laughs.
I liked Invader Zim: Into the Florpus better.
