On the recent (August 16th) anniversary of his passing back in 1977, which this year just happened to mark the 42nd year since his death at age 42, Elvis Presley remains a BIG deal to many, though his appeal does seem to slowly be fading, especially among younger music fans. What, if anything, did/does he mean to you ?? Elvis PresleySAVE FERRIS

The very early Sun stuff and the 68 Special and ignore all the fluff and spangles aside.

Respected His Talent (somewhat), But Was Never Really A Fan Of His Music Or Movies.
Favorite songs: A Little Less Conversation (JXL Remix) Suspicious Minds Can't Help Falling in Love - I did this at a karaoke bar and a drunk woman came up all turned on by it.

Not a fan. But then again I’m not a fan of any artist who doesn’t write their own songs.

You really had to have been there from the beginning to truly understand what the fuss was about. 1968 COMEBACK SPECIAL This is MY best / favorite memory of THE Elvis Presley.

Oh, those damned movies. Tom Parker might have made Elvis but he screwed him so bad. Making him make the dopey movies, never let him tour outside the US, letting the bloodsuckers milk him for all he had in the end and then working him to death.

yep ...EP is said to have wanted to become a real (ie serious) actor and did show potential and growth from his debut in Love Me Tender where he seems somewhat out of his depth. He is actually pretty good in the drama King Creole . As for the dopey movies … he got quite good at playing Elvis and most … ok many .. of them are good "park your brain at the door, rainy Saturday movies " to just sit and listen to the music and watch the dances and the pretty girls. Ann-Margret anyone ?

Between the Music and Movies... it's pretty obvious he's clearly known for music as I don't think anyone can say otherwise. it's pretty much like this for just about everyone else I can think of who start off in music, have success, and then try getting into movies, it just does not work as well for them even if they are okay at movies.
I voted for the 'never seen the fuss etc'. because I think in his case it's more of he was one of the first do to what he does etc. so people will overpraise him for it. plus, with him dying at a younger age that further locks him into that iconic status. that's what I think a fair amount from the old days are overpraised because of stuff like that.
with that said... I am not saying he was talentless or anything as it seems like he's got charisma on stage etc and can sing decently. but, like many others from the old days of music, tend to get overpraised like The Beatles etc.
