One of the small ethnic restaurants in the city of Chicago, its one of the things I miss about Chicago - great ethnic restaurants.

That place somewhere in Texas where Rich Hall went to in his documentary "You Can Go To Hell, I'm Going To Texas" just to see for myself if you really can get, in Rich's words, "a 72oz steak, eat it all and you don't pay, T-Bone extravaganza, replete with a quarter-acre of salad and a baked potato the size and texture of a sofa" (one hour time limit to eat it all for free - fail to finish it within an hour and the bill is $72) I guess you can order it because they filmed a guy who was, at that moment, about halfway through the steak but had only 9 minutes eating time left on the countdown clock. The Big Texan Steak Ranch, it's called.

Everyone needs to stop what they're doing right now, head to Philadelphia and eat at Zahav.
For me, I want to head back to the Pacific Northwest for the best salmon the world has to offer.

Brigtsen's in New Orleans. It was about 6-7 years ago, that I ate there. I think they call their cuisine "Modern Creole." I call it Heaven. Of course, New Orleans is food-heaven all across the city.
(This reminds me, again, that I miss No Socks Here. I hope he's alright, and I wish he'd return.)

Nuts, I was recently in Seattle, to meet some friends before heading for Port Angeles. I like to stay at the Edgewater, and head for Ivar's Acres o' Clams. Next time, I'll try Elliot's.

Yeah, I managed to find a similar piece. And I can't believe what I am seeing. I can't believe it. But it's there in front of my eyes to see. But this cannot be an enjoyable process. The amount of food she is demolishing at the rate she does almost makes me gag, I'm afraid. In fact, she herself gags several times at the table (but nothing too revolting, if you are going to watch) The second video is the one to watch. She seems to me to defy human limitations. She seems to me to be something other than human. The way she polishes off the first 72oz steak and then shovels the salad into her mouth in the manner of a woman who has not eaten for many days. It is a startling and engrossing piece of footage. Hot Dog-eating is one thing, but whole 4.5lb slabs of steak? Three of them? Plus all the sides? In twenty minutes? No, I must see it with my own eyes to believe it. www.keranews.org/post/woman-breaks-big-texan-record-eating-three-72-ounce-steaks-20-minutes

Good stuff, that. "Chew and swallow, no savouring!" - Yeah, I really should get round to watching at least a few eps of this show. I've seen only one, the episode with R.E.M. in it. I dunno, I reckon I could make it maybe a quarter way through a 72 ouncer and that'd be pushing it. I'm still mind-boggled at 3 x 72oz plus sides, brah.

Local BBQ spot near me (it's Yankee BBQ, not the real thing) had a challenge that was 2 full racks of ribs, 6 full wings (drumstick + wing), 3 sausages, 1/2 lb meatloaf, Mac n Cheese side, one other side of your choice, and 3 pieces of corn bread. My friend who tried it said the corn bread was the worst part because you'd focus on the meat first just to get through it, but then everything after that was just so heavy and rich.

Greektown in Chicago is alive and well. However, I do believe Dianna's is gone. Greek Islands actually opened a second location in the suburbs. I have frequently made an entire meal of Greek Islands Saganaki, the Greek sesame bread and butter and a glass of Rodytis.

I have frequently made an entire meal of Greek Islands Saganaki, the Greek sesame bread and butter and a glass of Rodytis. Sounds good except for the Rodytis, one of the few times I got drunk when I was a young woman was from drinking Rodytis, I had 3 glasses at a Greek picnic in Olympia Fields, Il. and I couldn't walk and was very sick afterwards. That's strong stuff and reminds me of something you would use to clean a floor. I love Saganaki - Opa!!!

Are you sure your not mistaking Rodytis for Retsina? Retsina is a Greek wine that could be used clean toilet bowls. It is foul stuff made from resin, hence the name. Rodytis, on the other hand is a mild rose' wine.
For dessert, have a baklava, a cup of Greek coffee and a small glass of Mavrodaphne.

You are correct koskiewicz, it was Retsina - my old brain cells don't function too well in the morning. Rodytis is the nice tasting wine. Mavrodaphne is ok but a little too sweet for me. I love Greek coffee but I can no longer drink the stuff, you would have to peel me off the ceiling. One of my friend's grandmother used to read the coffee grounds for us, of course she would tell all of us we were going to meet the man of our dreams - well that didn't happen until about a decade later and I wasn't even looking for one. Are you Greek?

All those folk at the counter look like they're enjoying their food.
