a massive fortress in the middle of nowhere designed to survive earthquakes, tornadoes, and bomb blasts?
First off this subject attracts a lot of conspiracy and "illuminati" types so I want to acknowledge that. But it still fascinates me because of the simple reason that despite the fact its zoned as a single family residence its absolutely enormous. Its literally one of the largest house in the US, construction is 13 years and may not be done yet.
Also: I can find no evidence that Steve, or anyone else actually lives there. It took over a decade to build, and cost untold millions, and yet it just sits there...empty. Why?
Pensmore is one of the largest homes in the United States located in the Ozark Mountains near Highlandville, Missouri, that spreads more than 72,000 square feet, reaches five stories, contains 14 baths, 13 bedrooms, has exterior walls 12 inches thick, and was designed to survive earthquakes, tornadoes, and bomb blasts, and whose construction lasted from 2008-2016—with its owner, Steven T. Huff, telling The Kansas City Star, in 2015, that "the house should stand for 2,000 years".[2]
designed to survive earthquakes, tornadoes, and bomb blasts - why though? Why build a fortress in the middle of nowhere that can survive a freaking bomb blast? This is literally something a fictional character would build to survive the zombie apocalypse.
This is where the conspiracy theorists start chiming in. "Its an apocalypse shelter! He's an insider, he knows _______ is about to happen and this is his survival bunker!"
And quite frankly given what's going on with the climate having a little place to retreat to should the S actually HTF is not a bad idea. But this is decade long project, it seems like something like this would have been built for a specific reason. You don't spend this much money on something just for fun. And it seems he certainly ins't in a hurry to move in that's for sure.
this is the official reason given.
The home's large size and its location in the Ozarks (which experiences both high and low temperatures, as well as tornadoes) were chosen so that Huff could explore how these concepts work on a commercial scale and under a broad range of climate conditions—with it, also, being noted that it was built in an area where it was not subject to government building inspections or regulations.[3][4][5]
TBF thats is pretty vague, not even really sure what that means. Wikipedia lists construction as completed but this video from 2018 shows the interior is only partially done. Work started in 2006, so 13 years and still ongoing.

this imgur post I did not create, and it contains a lot of speculation, but still has some interesting facts mixed in. Enjoy it, but also realize I am not taking everything in this post completely seriously.
