So it's The Abyss meets The Descent? Interesting.

Looks like it could've been a Bioshock movie.

Saw it earlier today.
You are right that there is a sense of The Abyss to it but it's only location in which the story is set.
The core concept is the cliche-heavy crew (the somewhat naive good guy, the overconfident leader, the always screaming/crying woman, the prankster/weird guy, the sweet girl that wants to help everyone, etc..) that has to get away (or fight) from the creature/entity.
That means you can associate the crew with those seen in Event horizon, Prometheus, Life (2017), Severance (2006) or even Deep blue sea or Anaconda if you want. I stopped listing movies there but it's really any movie that has a group of cliche characters that need to survive their encounter with a more or less known entity.
Then you take that crew and dump them thousands of feet below the surface at The Abyss level.
The way it all happens is pretty generic, you can call the shots on the decisions taken by the characters and the scary moments too. The only thing that surprised me is how quick you're thrown into the mess. The movie pretty much begins with the first problem occurring then the shit hits the fan (in a previsible way) from there.
There isn't anything above average about the movie, whether it's the effects, acting or story yet it's not bad to the point where it becomes funny like Deep blue sea.
4/10 for me.

Saw this , it was kinda bad, bland characters and derivative. Cool creature at the end though.

A few thrills and good direction (when it's not obscured by murkiness), but awful characterization and TJ Miller killed some of the movie with his humor.
Wish Gunner Wright was in it more, he was Issac Clarke in Dead Space and this has Dead Space vibes.

A few thrills and good direction (when it's not obscured by murkiness), but awful characterization and TJ Miller killed some of the movie with his humor. Minutes after that character was introduced I turned to my friend and said "I hope this guy will be the first to die!". Not a total waste of time but not worth a full admission price either...

The worst thing about this film was to have the disaster start in the first minute.

The worst thing about this film was to have the disaster start in the first minute. As in an act of Mother Nature or the movie itself?

Not great but a good execution of what it was trying to do. Overall, I recommend it as decent entertainment.

I think it jumps into the action a little bit too early - would have been nicer to get a little background on the characters, because as it was, I felt no connection or empathy for any of them. Was it just me or was Kristen Stewart saying her lines too quickly? I couldn't understand half of what she was saying - not that it made a big difference since there wasn't much dialogue. Overall I give the film a 6/10. It reinforced my belief that Stewart can't act, and The Abyss was much better.
