There's not only abstract still art but also abstract animation. Sometimes the animation is accompanied by music and sometimes there is no sound at all. Even those who enjoy it tend to prefer it in small doses so there are to this date, only two feature length animated films produced in the style. Ere Erera Baleibu Izik Subua Aruaren is the first one, made by Jose Antonio Sistiega, and the second is the very recent North of Blue made by Joanna Priestley.
Some of the early techniques used are hand drawn animation and drawn, cut, or painted on film animation. There are very few abstract animations done in stop motion but I included the only two I know here. Later works are done in techniques like digital computer animation, 2D or later 3D, or crayon. For those who are interested I'll post a few animated shorts below so you can see what abstract animation has to offer.
Symphonie Diagonale
Boogie Doodle
Gumbasia
Catalog 1961
Arabesque
Impressions en haute atmosphere
Roost
AANAATT
Synesthesia
An interesting short I found on YouTube called Serpents in the Crystal
I hope that somebody is interested in at least one of these films. There's more brilliant abstract animations and abstract films I can share if anybody is interested.
