Lush
'Heavenly Bodies' / 'I've Been Here Before'
..
Lush were formed in London in 1987. The original line-up consisted of Miki Berenyi (vocals, guitar), Emma Anderson (vocals, guitar), Steve Rippon (bass) and Chris Acland (drums) - Phil King replaced Rippon on bass in 1991. They created evocative music and became one of England's most important rock bands, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with early influencer Siouxsie And The Banshees and Scottish inspirations Altered Images and Cocteau Twins (Acland played with Simon Raymonde in The Lillies).
The Sundays formed around the same time as Lush and Slowdive formed in 1989, influential bands from the Thames Valley. I saw Chris Acland at one of Lush's final gigs and he was one of the best drummers I ever saw.

Elastica
'Blue' / 'S.O.F.T.'
..
Elastica were formed in London in 1992 by Justine Frischmann (vocals, guitar) and Justin Welch (drums, vocals), who'd met while playing together in an early incarnation of Suede. They brought in Annie Holland (bass) and Donna Matthews (guitar) to create the dynamic Elastica sound which echoed the band's name.

Sleeper
'Hunch' / 'Lady Love Your Countryside'
..
Sleeper were formed in London in 1992. Louise Wener (vocals, guitar) and Jon Stewart (guitar) had played together in various guises for some time, having both studied at Manchester University. They filled out the band with Diid Osman (bass) and Andy MacLure (drums) who created one of the punchiest rhythm sections of the 1990s.

Lush had some great tracks and Miki was gorgeous. Was lucky enough to see them live (front row no less) back in the day.

Lush, Elastica and Sleeper gigs were too much in '95 - '96. Great musicianship replete with ideas, tremendous energy through guitar-based innovation, mercurial fire that fully eclipsed the anthems of inflated contemporaries like Blur and Oasis. You just had to turn the volume up high and crank it bigtime.

Three bands I still love and all were great live. Always had a soft spot for Louise Wener's vocals. Something for the trivia buffs. Miki Berenyi's mother, Yasuko Nagazumi, was a Bond girl and a regular on Space 1999. Technically Miki was in You Only Live Twice. Her mother was 3 months pregnant with her while filming (she is on the far left)

Never Here
Also, this, aimed at the fellow from Blur, according to a million sources including the 'Love And Poison' Suede biography...one of the finest modern biogs (of any genre) I have ever read. Really well written. I always had the 'La la la la la' bit down as a kind of pithy dismissal of Albarn's connection with Frischmann...that's what it sounds like to my ears

Loved Lush and like the two Elastica releases, plagiarism warts and all...Never really got into Sleeper...For those missing Lush, here is Miki and Justin's new band, Piroshka (From the 2019 album 'Brickbat'):
