I bought it too despite knowing how bad it was. I can get past a few levels because I know them so well. Anyone playing it for the first time would have a lot of trouble though.
It's a perfect example of just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. I think I read somewhere the best Doom port on a early '90s console was on The 3DO and I think that still hard borders on the screen.

Seriously though, it is indisputably a terrible port. To add insult to injury, there are no saves/passwords to resume your game in the SNES version. I don't recall ever seeing past level three.
I'd stake the claim that the 32X version is better, despite the f'ed up music and missing levels.

Does anyone expect great things from Doom on the friggin' SNES? It's just a novelty that the SNES can do it at all.

I remember renting it because I had to see my SNES try things it shouldn't. 1995 SNES release, that wasn't even garbage time yet. Talk about a sham.
