She appeared on a talk radio show to gripe about Hollywood's fickleness.
TEXT:
Enter Kirsten Dunst. The 37-year-old actress just got candid on SiriusXM’s "In Depth with Larry Flick” where she discussed her disappointment about being overlooked by Hollywood. In her words:
I’ve never been nominated for anything. Maybe like twice for a Golden Globe when I was little and one for Fargo. Maybe they just think I’m the girl from Bring It On.
The actress got candid about her career on the podcast while promoting her new Showtime series On Becoming a God in Central Florida. She was asked about the first time she felt the power of her storytelling and she explained how she’s weirdly never felt it. Dunst explained how she’s had a number of disappointments throughout her career:
Well, remember when Marie Antoinette — y'all panned it? And now you all love it. Remember Drop Dead Gorgeous? Panned. Now you all love it. It's, like, interesting for me. I feel like a lot of things I do people like later.

I consider her to be underappreciated by the movie industry. The tabloids gave her a hard time for years, saying she was an unreliable pothead with funny teeth etc. I hope she gets an Oscar nomination one of these days, a bit like how Patricia Arquette and Jennifer Jason Leigh were finally nominated years on from much of their great work. Kirsten Dunst has everything you could want in her resume, she's a charismatic character actress who can hold the screen in leading roles and she's worked with very interesting directors. She's always had talent; her shocking turn in 'Interview With A Vampire' is among the best performances delivered by a child in the 1990s - Natalie Portman in 'Leon' would be the other that springs to mind, but Portman has been widely recognised by the industry and her peers.

She was very good in that and Jumanji for that matter. Hell, I'm probably the last person who thinks she did fine in the Spider-Man movies up until the 3rd movie. Which made everyone stupid but I hate how she's always singled out when she wasn't the one thrusting at the audience.

Those 'Spiderman' films are incredible. Admittedly, I'm not a comic book guy, but I still think they're the best I've seen from the last 20 years. Sam Raimi's a stylish director which is what's missing from the Marvel in-house assembly line. Raimi tried to make 'Spiderman' for something like 14 years (I forget the exact figure), but he had to wait for the technology to catch up with his vision. They are heartfelt films, labours of love with excitement and action. The first one is my favourite and contains this iconic image I still remember being knocked out by in the cinema ...

She's too white as in too Germanic white. She's in the worst minority demographic in Hollywood for awards consideration.
If WW 2 had gone differently she would be a huge star, known for Ilsa: Savior of the SS and a whole series of Heidi films.

petrolino I agree; the first two remain among my top 10, 15 superhero movies ever. The Holland series corrected some issues I had with the Garfield films. But I never got any feeling of emotional weight to Homecoming (and I'm hearing similar things about Far From Home). I can only wonder how the fourth reboot(?!?) will handle things.

The first two are definitely better, top dollar blockbuster entertainments you're happy to pay the price of popcorn for. Back then, seeing these massive comic book movies was still a novelty, Bryan Singer's 'X-Men' was another that delivered. I agree the 3rd 'Spiderman' movie is quite ridiculous but it does entertain me and still has some of Raimi's trademark flourishes.
One of those movies felt like a complete rehash of Raimi's vision which left me feeling bitterly disappointed. I do admire the Marvel Universe and what they're doing, but they're making event cinema like a tv series, where the accent is on massive production design, dazzling special effects and a strong human component in the storytelling. What I feel they miss, which Raimi has in spades, is ability to surprise with the camera. DC recruited stylists in Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder, but I hear they're having second thoughts now after seeing Marvel's box-office returns, preparing to instigate their own series built around bringing characters together.

Maybe for their streaming service. But the movies seem to be branching out further from the shared universe now that Snyder's gone.

It's truly a golden age for comic book pictures when it comes to the big dogs, Marvel & DC, not to mention all the graphic novels and Japanese comic books being brought to the screen. The next generation of fanatical movie geeks, rebelling against their parents' icons and discovering their own icons from their folks' generation, will worship Kirsten Dunst and seek out all her films. I'm confident of this because quality rises to the top eventually and she's the real deal.

They do not like Germans in Hollywood so she should not be surprised someone like Natalie Portman gets the attention. It's biased. But she probably knows this and is just pointing it out indirectly.

I always thought she had a nice easy going charisma. It's a film that doesn't get talked about at all these days but she was perfect as the "girl next door" in Small Soldiers

Right? Being German hasn't stopped people like Daniel Bruhl or Diane Kruger from having great careers.

She's working, working on stuff she likes, and making lots of money. Why complain? Awards don't mean everything.
