I will take those authors under advisement, having read every Agatha Christie book ten times.

I haven't read any books by Margaret Millar, but I've read books by Rendell and Tey. I particularly loved The Daughter of Time and Miss Pym Disposes, the latter for an ending I never saw coming.

Ngaio Marsh is quite good, and so is Patricia Wentworth. I like Alan Hunter's George Gently books, especially the earlier ones. Josephine Tey is okay, though personally I think Brat Farrar is her best book. I was going to suggest Jonathan Gash's Lovejoy books, but then I saw the article said 'no misogyny' and Lovejoy is about as misogynistic as they come. None of these authors is as good as Agatha Christie though, she stands alone.

To me Peter Lovesey is the only current crime writer who matches Christie´s ingenuity in plotting.
Margaret Millar is an interesting writer, but I always found her books rather depressing, although Fire Will Freeze is a fun take on the And Then There Were None- style close-circle mystery. Probably the closest she ever came to telling a traditional whodunit.

I love the Agatha Raisin and Hamish Macbeth series, I've already preordered the new books in the series on Amazon UK because I don't want to wait for their release in the U.S., I've also preordered the Ruth Galloway series and the Stephens & Mephisto series by Elly Griffiths from Amazon U.K.

My Mum has been reading a few Francis Duncan books. He wrote at the same time as Christie and a lot of his books were reissued recently.
She says they’re good.

What about Ngaio Marsh? I came across her book Grave Mistake and I’m really enjoying it. I intend to get my hands on others.

I just finished reading 2 books by Ruth Ware, The Woman in Cabin 10 and The Death of Mrs. Westaway, they both had good character development, I would recommend them as substitutes for Agatha Christie (no as good but still compelling).
