There really aren't any true movie stars around today. Maybe there are some exceptions like say Leo (highly overrated) or Dwayne Johnson, but for the most part the age of the movie star is dormant. Those who came up in that era are now struggling to survive. Those who are able to survive are able to adapt to today's culture and viewing habits. Take say Nicole Kidman or Keanu Reeves. Kidman has found success balancing TV productions with film roles. Big Little Lies is definitely the most talked about thing she's done in the last decade. She also has other mini-series in the works with Hulu and HBO. She's smart because she's taking part in productions the public are interested in and will get a lot more eyeballs on than some misfire "small" film. Keanu Reeves on the other hand is being talked about more right now than he has been in quite some time. This is because he's stepped on the franchise train. He developed John Wick from the ground up, which becomes bigger and bigger with each movie. He joined the Toy Story franchise and is now going back to The Matrix and Bill and Ted. He also got buzz dipping his toe into the streaming world with an appearance in Netflix's Always be my Maybe. Both of these two have adapted in today's world and their careers are seeing the rewards. This is opposed to say John Travolta or Nicolas Cage. Both of these two keep trying to do "movies" that maybe, with better scripts, would have done well in the '90's or early 2000's. But in today's world they don't cut it. They are stuck in the past and the state of their careers speak for themselves.
