It might score a nomination, but it’s probably not going to win Best Picture.

I'm interested in seeing it, as it sound like an intriguing interpretation of the character and a great film, but will likely sit near the fire exit just in case.

Nah, it’s not gonna happen. I don’t care how good the movie will be, the Academy don’t give CBMs enough credit.

The Oscar bait films re not due out for another couple of months so lets not jump the gun too hastly. I think we already know the players:
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood Ad Astra Cats
Ford v. Ferrari Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Joker Jojo Rabbit Pain and Glory Portrait of a Lady on Fire Marriage Story
The Farewell
The Two Popes Little Women 1917
and others. Some of these film were either at Cannes, SXSW, or the Vennice Film Festival, but Joker seems to have received the most praise.

Its long overdue after the massive snobs shown to Logan and TDK.
About time a comic film gets it due, DC does that best. Too bad Marvel lost their chance now that X-Men has gone to the immature MCU

I doubt it. It’s rarely what we think it will be or what we think deserves it.
Green Book? Really? That white savior movie? Instead of BlackKklansman?
Jonah Hill for Moneyball? Wtf?
Jim Carrey snubbed for Truman Show, Man on the Moon, AND Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind?
TDK snubbed?
The Oscars are a joke.

Yeah that is really worth highlighting - the last two winners. Just to emphasise the context here...of the 63 Golden Lion winners before Shape of Water, only 3 have been Oscar nominated (no winners). The award is indication of nothing other than that panel thought it was the best film screened at that festival. Not nominated and not in competition against films already released or the Oscar contenders to be released in the months leading up to Oscar. I hope Joker is good...I hope it is award worthy. But part of me, without seeing it, hopes it get's no nominations. Why? Because it will mean DC Fan will go missing again after he usually does when his Oscar predictions don't pan out.
