Well, it is a Fox Searchlight film about why bigotry is bad. fall prestige release under searchlight label I thought Oscar baits were period pieces and/or biopics and/or dramas about people with some kind of disability.

Hitler is no laughing matter. FU Fox Searchlight. Not that it'll change anyone's opinion on the (I guess political correctness of the) topic, but Hitler has been shown in comedy/satire multiple times before. Most prominently in the German satire 'Er ist wieder da', which is about Hitler living in the 21st century. I saw it and I think it's a pretty bad movie, but that's kinda beyond the point. Also, I'd say Hitler is ridiculed and made fun of in Inglorious Basterds.

Couldn't give a rats bottom about seeing this propaganda piece of what looks like phony virtue signalling and fishing for compliments. What propaganda is this movie trying to sell?

Hitler is no laughing matter. FU Fox Searchlight. Many would argue that the millions of deaths caused by Hitler are no laughing matter while Hitler himself is.

Waititi is a complete douche who would be horrified if he ever finds out Hitler was defeated by the mostly white American men he despises. Did Taika trigger you in some way, brah?

I just saw it today.
I found it amazing.
I just rated it on IMDb where it is at 8.
It takes place in the last days of the war. (Maybe 6 weeks or less) Things are bad. As in 10 yr old boys being trained to fight.
Jojo's 2 day Hitler Youth camp is cut short when he's injured. The boy's imaginary friend is Hitler, but a 10 yr old boy's idea of Hitler (excuses himself to go home to his dinner of unicorn at one point). There are shortages. It's never clear what mom does to survive, but things go decidedly south. Not everyone is what they seem
I would say it is a happy ending, but it is darker than I expected.
It is worth the time.

It's a comedy. It's Oscar chances were pretty much 0% from the get go. As I posted, the critic score is 79% now. 63% from Top Critics. From what I see, the complaint is from critics who can't get past the humor. Nazis shouldnt be funny.

Nazis shouldnt be funny. i found it very funny and tasteful at the same time. Very well done. 9/10 from me. I was surprised when Jojo was hurt. Blindsided me. Scarjo was amazing. I have long ignored critic reviews, believing many seem to be written by critics who spent most of the movie in line for popcorn or in the restroom. The critics who trashed this seem to more be rating Nazis. Like Dr Erskine said in First Avenger "So many people forget that the first country the Nazis invaded was their own. You know, after the last war, they... My people struggled. They... they felt weak... they felt small. Then Hitler comes along with the marching, and the big show, and the flags " Not all Germans were evil. Not even all Nazis. Some played along just to survive. The Gestapo guys in the movie were bad. The teen Hitler Youth officers just seemed like bullies, not especially evil. Rockwell's character seemed basically incompetent, but that was possibly an escape to not have to do the horrors he would have been expected to perform in the regular army & then he turned out to be a good guy. So that was a reason to give this 0 stars? Because it points out what it was really like for the German people under Hitler? Heaven forbid we show how they were impacted by Hitler's actions.
