The Dymaxion 3 wheeled car. Couldn't find an image, though. Not sure I got the correct spelling.

The Dymaxion 3 wheeled car. Couldn't find an image, though. Not sure I got the correct spelling. Three-wheel cars were somewhat popular in Europe after WW2 because some countries taxed by the wheel and compactness was desirable on narrow streets. BMW made one. Messerschmitt too. It was banned from making aircraft after the war and so it turned to cars.

Turbine powered cars Chrysler and GM both experimented with them, Chrysler probably going the furthest in development. There were also turbine powered race cars in the 1950s and 1960s. Pros were less maintenance than a conventional piston powered engine, typically would last much longer, and could operate on different types of fuels (Chrysler even allowed the Mexican President to run it on tequila when asked). Cons were the engines were more expensive to produce, poorer fuel mileage and somewhat higher emissions.

The Cat Piano. 5 The Cat Piano Athanasius Kircher, a 17th-century German Jesuit scholar, documented some fantastical devices including the Katzenklavier ("cat piano"). It has a normal keyboard in front of a line of cages, each of which has a cat trapped inside. When a key is pressed, a nail is driven into the tail of one unfortunate feline, which naturally screeches. It was designed to shock psychiatric patients into changing their behaviour, rather than be something Monteverdi could be played on. Fortunately, it was probably never built. www.theguardian.com/music/2014/jan/21/10-strangest-musical-instruments

Apparently the Sega Master System in the US which is a surprise to me since it caught on here in Australia and a lot of people I know used to have a Sega Master System and loved games like 'Alex Kidd in Miracle World', 'Wonderboy' and 'Dynamite Düx' but its lack of success in the US is one of the reasons why Sega have taken a long time to release a Sega Master System Mini and keep re-releasing the Mega Drive/ Genesis but Haruki Satomi has said he wants to release a mini for the Master System so that could be changing soon.

With some attention to vehicles here, from the 1950's I remember the so called suicide knob that was attached to the steering wheel of any car. These were actually banned. It allowed the driver to use this device to make very quick but dangerous turns.

But now I wonder if that was the inspiration for Monty Python's Mouse Organ:

I've heard speak of some variety of motorized horseless carriage. I suspect such talk is pure flap-doodle.
